Thank you very very much! Those have made the final decision for me. Im going to go ahead with it but im going to get some fibreglass matting and some filler and reshape that side part so that I looks like it is made to fit the early bumpers.
Im not too bad with fibreglassing as I played a big part in the restoration of a fibreglass Rochdale GT at school, but that was a few years ago and there wasnt much shaping of the fibreglass to do - it was just repairing gel cracks in the surface. Steve Am I right in thinking if I get the shape I want by shaping a bit of sturdy foam and then hold that up against the spoiler edge (having chopped the unwanted parts off) and then do the fibreglassing, and then a skim of filler to smooth it all out? EDIT: Ive just done this quickly in paint and it looks like I might be able to get away with just cutting it, and sanding the edge round again. Would have to wait and see when I get hold of a spoiler. Id still like to know the best way to fibreglass though as I would want to be prepared for what I want to do.

That will work fine I think. Are those later spoilers made of fibreglass or plastic? If fibreglass, there is no problem, but if it's a plastic moulding you will have difficulty getting anything (including resin) to stick to it. You'll need to make a metal bracket which can be attached to the spoiler - i.e. by a nut and bolt - to locate the rear edge. As I said before, don't understimate the strength of fittings needed to hold a spolier on a motorway speeds. I would recommend removing the bumper to fit the spoiler to it. That way you can work inside the bumper easily. We can talk about it on Saturday Cheers John |

Hi John. As far as I remember from refurbishing Nick's spoiler they are plastic.
I think my best bet is to just get hold of a spoiler first. Then I can compare sizes and fitting holes etc. I will remove the bumper to do this as its only held with 4 bolts at the front and 2 at the edges. That might also make for an ideal time to remove my front wings to check for rust and waxoyl. As you say, I'll speak to you on saturday John. Steve
