Long journeys probably will get to 37 to 40mpg.

Had an Audi SQ5 (3.0 bi turbo 310hp - Diesel) and was doing around 40mpg+ daily drive....
2017 xc90 D5, best i can get is 30mpg on a motorway drive with limiter set to 75mph. on the school run around town about 5mile each way, need to put the speed limiter on and can get max 22mpg, without the limiter its down to 17mpg or worse

There's either something wrong with your car or with your right foot.
Journeys of less than five miles from a cold start are always wildly pessimistic when shown on the car's dash. By the tenth mile it will have normalised but I don't have any motorways near me and averaged 37mpg. Never recall getting below 30mpg ever. On trips to near Edinburgh from Cardigan Bay, which is a 700 mile round trip but easily 1000 miles counting a few excursions up there, with motorway travel mostly at 75mph, I got a genuine 39mpg counted by brim to brim. The trip was less than 0.5mpg optimistic.

never tested it by checking brim to brim, always used the computer on the dash and based it on that. But coming from an X5 to this i just assumed that it was normal to be that thirsty. Don't do huge miles so not really an issue, but making me seriously consider the T8 plug in next time if i can find one cheap enough.

On a 150 mile journey on the Edinburgh by-pass and down the A1 at around 75mph on the dual parts, and various in between, I got circa 47mpg on my last 3 drives.
Slightly less coming north as I use the A68. Around 44mpg.

I only use Shell or BP fuel nowadays.
