Got 2 of the things now
the TE has just been joined by a grey 1971 auto 164 an unfinished restoration $3500.00 spent on it to get to the state its in all undercoated and ready for a topcoat came with roadworthy and rego i couldnt say no though i do wish at times i had a semi-economical car
I buy enormous amounts of fuel every week A simple trip to melbourne 1300 miles each way costs a fortune i've done 4 trips there this year so far |

Two so far eh - long way to go to catch me up! My obsession is almost embarrasing, only restricted by storage space (or lack of it).
Don't know what fuel costs in Australia but over here we don't call a 1300 mile trip a local run - thats a years motoring with the insurance on my 164E. My 240 daycar only takes me 3 or 4 miles on £1 of petrol, and by the sound of things it will get worse. As you have probably noticed there are lots of moaners re costs over here; all I say is - wait till you too are a pensioner.... If one has a job at least there is the possible opportunity of betterment; us OAPs are stuck with our lot. Also don't know what your dollar translates to (thick aint I?) but your second car sounded quite expensive by UK standards, unless its almost immaculate. Still, I doubt you have the continual rusting problems we have to contend with.... unless your area was one of those affected by floodwaters . Paul |

Great to hear your car is on the road and being used as intended.
Do Australian regulations allow you to swap in different engines? If so, you could fit your "long-distance 164" with, say, a Volvo D5 engine. It would mount to the Volvo M90 gearbox for RWD installation. Did you get manual 960s over there? John |

Hi, nice looking 164, one of the best colours! You mentioned the camber set up earlier and I remembered reading that the standard set up is thought to be all wrong. I read the camber front and back should be near zero. Anyways I wouldn't take the manual at face value i'm sure the handling can be improved! Jimmy

Nice car indeed.
I'm looking at getting my hands on these: A far bit of work there I know. But maybe 1 or 2 nice cars can be made from the 3. |
