Not so much of a shock but certainly an eye opener.

The old uns are fine for low speed impacts but I may be looking up NCAP for the 760s replacement

well done to all of us that said the Renault would win, it seems we know more than all those involved with the show and test.

I'm still staying with my old Volvo though as its more reliable than alot of newer cars, plus small cars suck

A fairer test would be cars of different sizes but not 20+ years apart in design.

It wasnt too bad. The volvo driver would have survived I recon. I wonder what the result would have been for a full-bore head on instead of one offset to the drivers side?

Dont forget, the 940, 740 or any Volvo for that matter compares very very well indeed with its contemporaries. Imagine crashing a 15 yr old Volvo 940 into a 15yr old Renault? The Modus and 940 are snapshots of very different stages in safety development. Yes, the Modus trashed the Volvo but maybe that isnt such a bad thing. It would be unthinakable that car crash safety hasnt moved on in 15 years.

The point they are making is about perception - most people would take the Volvo because what Volvo stands for. However try comparing any car with a specific purpose against one 15 years younger and you can see the differences.

Lets say performance, take a 15 year old 911 against a new one, which one is quicker from point to point?

Interior space, lets take a 15 year old Escort against a new Focus.

Car design moves on, and fortunately safety is a major area of improvement. The NCAP is improving things - and it is a good thing - and they are bringing in more tests. The Z4 has 4 stars and it doesnt even have a roof.

Shame they didnt crash the Volvo into a P(r)ious
