I'm going to have a play with my clip tomorrow!
I genuinely just bought a new calliper because one side of the disk is only partly touched by the pad and the pad rattles?
I may have just needed to move the spring by the sound of it...

If the disc and pad are only contacting on the piston side, it could be be just dirty caliper pins or as you hint, an incorrectly fitted spring.

It was binding when I got the car and had worn out the pads, I cleaned everything up and worked the piston loads but I think it's still knackered tbh. It may also have the spring clip install wrongly . I put them back the same way they came out.....

I have acquired an 06 XC70 with lots of miles, I too have the spongy brake peddle problem and errors with ABS and Brake Assist. Replaced ABS sensor right front, garage said codes indicated but still get error when I reach 40mph.
Went to check springs and front ones look ok, rear ones are not there at all, looks like one new calliper and two new discs.
So question is (and probably a daft one) do the rear brakes need the springs? And is it likely their absence is causing my problems?

There was a member on here from Texas in the last few weeks with spongy brakes. Turned out he had no rear clips either. Replacing them sorted the problem.
In fairness someone had tried to bind up the servo with wire and maybe they were borrowed for that purpose.
Who is nicking all these clips.

About a tenner on Ebay, can't hurt to fit them (apart from my thumbs). I'll report back.

Well I've fitted the new springs, they are a bit of a bugger to get in, but with pliers, a screwdriver, and the wife, they do go after a bit of swearing.
Brake pedal feels a lot better and the Anti Skid Temporarily Disabled message on starting didn't come up.
Thanks to all who posted their pictures of the correct fitting. Ta.
