My wife's Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV was more expensive than my S90 - it also only displays low tyre pressures by warning lights and an onscreeen message to check the pressure.

The price of the car is immaterial - it is just the type of technology implemented. Looking at the manual Polestar uses colour symbols as well.

The car was a heap of crap, but the TPMS never failed once in 5 years of ownership.

Comparing the cost of a PHEV to a petrol car just skews any argument. They are always more expensive.

When I bought the S90, the hybrid version was something like £12k more than the petrol one.

Fact remains that Volvo charge premium prices for a product that isn't quite there compared with the marques it tries to compete with.

Lesson learned. Won't make the same mistake again.

I agree with you Volvos are becoming too expensive in my view the badge doesn't support the price not enough kudos. Apparently the new EX90 will be around 100k you'd have to be seriously smoking something to sign that dotted line. I think volvo have over stretched the brand and that will translate into lower sales soon.

Pretty sure they know a bit more about the market than you, I'm sure they'll be fine. Have you seen everyone else's prices recently, no one has a fully electric SUV apart from Tesla, and they're hardly the benchmark for fit and finish.

As far as badge goes, I wouldn't touch a single German brand. They thrive on their badge and perceived quality to sell over priced cars to people.

The S90 markets itself in the same league as the Audi A6, the BMW 5 Serial, and the Mercedes E Class.

I was an E Class owner for many years, and had several E350 models in a row. The Mercedes had a lot of issues with lowering quality from facelift to facelift (aluminium trim replaced with cheap silver plastic for instance), but it was head and shoulders above the Volvo in so many areas. I left Mercedes because of customer service mainly, and would go back over Volvo any day if in the market for that sort of car again.

Don't get me wrong, in the main, it is a great car and has some very nice finishes and nice touches, but after owning it for a while now, the small idiosyncrasies start to grate on me. But I personally would say it's more a competitor for the VW Passatt or (as was) Ford Mondeo rather than the premium brands it pitches itself against.

Sorry, but you lost all credibility when you compared a Volvo product to a Mondeo and Passat!!!! Have you been in one of those?? Hard scratchy plastics, poor finish and no where near as refined. Volvo are a, and are regarded as, a luxury car manufacturer, Ford and VW are not even close.

And that is why it's a competitor (which is what I actually said). It has better finishes for sure, so is a contender for that market for those looking for better. But it's not (in my opinion) in the same league as the premium marques it targets as it's a step down from them, not a competitor.

I guess it depends on personal experience. BMW are an arrogant brand, the interiors are dull and the quality of the materials are poor, it’s all perceived. I looked at an E Class before ordering my new car and the creaks and rattles in a fairly new demonstrator were ridiculous.

BMW have so many issues with iDrive, Mercedes with their MBUX. Volvo are certainly capable of competing at the price point which is reflected in dozens of reviews.

I had an A6 for a year, nothing but issues. My 6 years of Volvo ownership have been trouble free apart from a couple of glitches with Sensus, but that’s cars nowadays, but in terms of reliability the last two have been faultless.

Cars have a funny way of generating loyalty from drivers, like I say, it’s all down to personal experience.
