ACF50 is way better than WD40 to fix this sticking microswitch issue. WD40 best use is for cleaning rather than lubrication.

I haven't been able to lock/alarm the car because of this issue
I live in the middle of nowhere so it's ok but I now have a job away so needed to address the issue So I remove the headlight and front grill but am unable to access the microswitch unit on the drivers side bonnet lock receiver In the end I disconnected the connector for the microswitch and shorted the female connector with a u shaped piece of wire taped it up as a temporary measure until I can access the part and replace it All seems ok and no alarm going off during the night, it's an annoying little fault but this seems like a good quick fix took about 5 mins |

Hi Guys, I have a similar problem on my V60 D4. Bonnet symbol appeared a while ago as i was driving, then disappeared. It was fine for a while after that, but is now staying on all the time! I have sprayed load s of silicone lubricant around both latches, but to no avail.
On the o/s/f latch there is a plunger behind the latch which can be pushed down so I assume that this is the guilty latch sensor. I couldn't see the wiring but will take the headlight out later and have a look. The car has locked ok, but the indicators didnt flash when it locked. They do flash as usual when i unlock it again. I notice the flashing light on the dashboard which indicates the car is locked is flashing as normal when the car is locked. Does this signify that the alarm is actually on? TIA |

After reading some of the posts on here about a workaround by shorting out the wires on the sensor, i decided to give it a go. When I removed the headlight however, i could not find the necessary terminal block as pictured on some posts. What I did see was what I took to be a single wire through a hole in the shroud around the bonnet sensor. With nothing to lose i carefully pulled it through to see if it was to do with the sensor. Weirdly, it was not a wire but a piece of straw, obviously picked up from the loose straw ledt behind when wagons full of straw bales travel the motorway and shed loose strand. I took it out, refitted the headlight, closed the bonnet and gues what? NO MORE BONNET OPEN WARNING LIGHT!!! This was about 3 weeks ago, and touch wood, so far it has not reappeared! I reckon this must have somehow interfered with the contacts closing and the warning light coming on! |

I also just managed a quick fix by shorting out the contact of the (Normally Open) bonnet sensor. I didn't attempt to get into the microswitch itself, I had already decided I wouldn't bother trying to repair it. I don't think there is any safety implication to de activating the sensor and am not concerned about anyone stealing my engine .
So I took a guess that the 2 pin connector I found on route to the RHS bonnet catch mechanism. (about 4" from the catch mech)was the bonnet sensor connection. I had the bonnet open warning up on the dash and as soon as shorted out the 2 connections with a short piece of wire in the 2 pin socket the warning went away! No more interrupted sleep! See the connector with blue tape in my pic on for those trying to locate the 2 pin plug. XC60 2010 D3 |

Yes I did the same, however waiting for Bartoszbart to come back with his solution, it would be nice to do it properly

Had the same issue, car too old to fix the switch.
My cosmetic solution: 1. Disconnect the electrical plug 2. Pull the switch side of the cable up to work on it through a hole 3. Pull down the protective sleeve 3. Strip the two wires over a short distance (eg. 5mm) 4. Twist the exposed wire parts together and solder 5. Tape the exposed parts and pull back over the sleeve 6. Connect the two electrical plugs back in position Regards |
