It works both ways. My girlfriend wants to bring her stuff from her home in England to here in Portugal. This will be classed as importing and there will need to be a complete inventory with the value of each item,then import tax and VAT may need to be payed. All the hidden truths about seamless brexit!

What her stuff as in her belongings - like furniture and clothing and perhaps a TV - pots and pans etc?

I'd be surprised if VAT on pre-bought and pre-owned items would be applied.

I could understand that governments would be interested in large quantities of cash art works and jewelry but even then taxation of property when emmigrating is a bit harsh.

I wonder if others here on the forum have say moved out of the European union pre-brexit and come a cropper with taxation for say moing to the UAE or Canada or the US of A? My family has lived in Africa and the Middle East and to the best of my knowledge we weren't clobbered with taxation on our possessions.

Yes moving house. Everything has to be declared and assessed for import tax etc..
