Getting back to the point........
Volvo are supplying ES models with radios that cannot be uprgaded to DAB & which are of a size that prevent you from going to Halfords & buying one that will receive DAB. SE models are no better unless you specify a £75 upgrade. The little boxes that have been suggested will never be an aesthetically pleasing addition to the interior and unless you connect them to an aerial which the car does not have - are most unlikely to achieve reliable reception. FM car aerials are designed to work at 88-108Mhz. None of them will work efficiently at the 175-249Mhz band of DAB. It is govenment policy to switch off FM as soon as possible and most likely before 2015. The legislation is in place to do this. Ignoring this would appear to be "burying your head in the sand". The government wants to grab the existing FM band to SELL to other users. |

Something like this might suffice:
http://caraudiosecurity.com/shop/pro...s_id/3441.html Not sure how much work is included in adding this, but it certainly seems to acheive what every one needs other than leaving FM as it is. |

There is also the question of the windscreen mounted aerial with its nice lead and what to do with the display unit & the lead that attaches it the base unit. You will of course need to see the display unit to tell what you are tuned to. Goodbye steering wheel audio control.
I am sure solutions like this, even if not this specific example, will exist but they are a mess & far from ideal. |

it certainly is a weird scenario - i can't imagine how much complaining there will be if and when they do switch off FM. Think how many cars on the road today don't have DAB capability - 99%?
it's going to be carnage! |

Well considering I'm getting the SE and a unit such as these are around £100-150 plus the £75 for the preparation then is just as easy for me to spec it at purchase.
Which is exactly what I've done! |
