Question

I took the cowling off of the steering wheel / ignition barrel area today to take a look at what space I have to work with..

At the moment I'm thinking I'll tap the wires going into the in-situ antenna ring and route wiring and the second antenna ring through to the lower right side of the dashboard where there seems to be a rather big void of space, I could also use a dremel to then cut out a hole here for an inline switch to cut off the antenna ring. Does this sound like a good approach?

Sounds pretty good to me. The only thing I might try to do different would be to use a Volvo switch in a blank space in the dash rather than add a different switch. In truth that's probably more to do with my OCD, if someone tries to nick the car they probably wouldn't sit there for 10 minutes after it won't start trying to figure out why and if you've added some sort of ignition inhibitor switch, so your plan should be sufficient

What sort of switch do you have in mind and do you happen to have a part number? Do you know if it would be a simple SP switch or would it have a circuit board attached and become more complicated?

A simpler solution is to ask a locksmith to clone the chip for your key as that is way smaller & easier to glue to the antenna coil around the barrel ...
BUT if it goes missing your insurers will refuse to cough up the readies because you deliberately "tampered " with the immobiliser .
Chances of being found out pretty slim but you never know

This is not possible seemingly, have you achieved this?

When I did this in a Ford Fiesta I went to the Ford dealer and bought a switch for a heated rear screen, the car didn't have one. All it would need would be a simple make/break switch, there's very little current in the antenna circuit to need a relay type operation, and it's just a crude way of stopping the chip signal getting to the immobiliser so no extra circuitry required. Visit a breakers and prize something out of the dash of an old one?

Unfortunately no dealers near me had any V70s, S70s or C70s in. I asked lask week when I was trying to get a cheaper antenna ring.

YUP!

Acquired a small batch of Zed Bull carbon chips & had tame locksmith scan & write to new chip . Glued new chip to back of ignition barrel once we knew it was active with no chipped key , chip is about the size of two grains of rice ( ish )
