Popped into my main dealer to book my XC60 in for a belt change as a result of Clans info, and they were oblivious to the change in the belt replacement regime for the VEA engine until they looked up my car.
The change from 108k to 90k is not such a big deal but those who do low mileage will be totally oblivious the mammoth reduction from 10 years to 5 years particularly if not using the main dealer. The dealership and have not been instructed by Volvo to inform owners of relevant vehicles of this major time reduction but I did suggest that perhaps they should! |

Five years is a very low life span for such materials and I would have thought that with todays modern materials the life span would have increased.

They have been doing fine for the last 6 years since launch i have not known of any failures . It would be interesting to know WHY they have done this ... Maybe just to ensure the problems they had with the D5 aux belt / tensioner from 2007 to 2012 never happen again ! or maybe the hard used police cars have had problems , their interval is down to 50000 miles ! Probably a change of more than once a year .. They won't have done it to generate more work for the workshops , they are more than flat out coping with the huge sales growth of recent years !

A correction :
The revised cambelt change interval to the VEA 2 litre engines from 2014 onwards is 90,000 miles or 10 years which ever comes first . The 5 years figure i quoted above is for police/ambulance models
