Changed the fuel filter today. Much easier than I expected. I used a Mann filter (the short stubby one). My car is a 2.4 petrol and has 134k on the clock. It looked like it had never been changed, even though the guy I bought it from said it had been serviced regularly at a local Volvo indi. I think they are supposed to be done at 96000.

This was probably the same garage that did the last oil service for him at 130700, and when I changed it recently after only ~3000 miles, it came out really black. I have the paperwork he passed on for this one, so they probably did charge him, but not sure they actually did it.

When I changed the oil for the first time on my 2001 V70 - always fully dealer serviced with stamps to 170k miles - after a further 300 miles, I bought it, the oil filter was totally plugged with carp(sic) i.e. what looked like casting sand and all sorts of other muck - seems that some dealers habitually drain using a pump and refill rarely changing the filter if at all....the fuel filter was also heavily fouled - I opened it up having seen the oil filter, NB the air filter box was loaded with dead leaves and other detritus - I contacted the previous owner to let him know that his chosen main dealer hadn't been entirely truthful in the long-term......

Adjusted the hand brake from 9 clicks to 4 clicks full on - when release not binding (NB cleaned the rust/scale etc from inside drums by repeatedly using the hand brake to slow from low speeds over the last few days) before taking the V70 went for its MOT today....it passed...hurray!

Big job today. Reset the 'time for regular service' indicator.

Changed the cabin air filter on A MkII Focus. A part shared by V50, S40, C70 etc.
I will never complain about the fiddliness of the V70 set up.
Glove box and lid out, fusebox and support bracket out .................... even then it had to be squished.

Failed the MOT on a track rod end dust boot. Little dissapointed I didn't spot it but you can't win them all.

Put some diesel in, fuel flap hinge plastic bits flew off over Tesco's forecourt. That's Saturday's job sorted, along with a good clean.
