RE: !!!!!!!!! IMPORTANT ALL 850/855 OWNERS READ !!!!!!!!
Hi of course you can go into a dealer and ask them if your car is one of the cars that were the subject of this recall from what I can gather it is all volvo 850/855 models from 96-97 . If your car is one of the affected they will do the modification free . They would also be able to tell if your car has already been done !! I have just looked out the info that i have
The last six digits of the chassis range of affected vehicles are as follows 850 saloon 267427 to 393364 850 estate 175991 to 340364 all uk suplied vehicles within this range wre fitted with heated fron seats as standard |

RE: !!!!!!!!! IMPORTANT ALL 850/855 OWNERS READ !!!!!!!!
I have a1994 850 auto estate. I have also had difficulties with the seat heater on the drivers side only. Overheating which made me feel very overheated in my bottom such that I turned the heater off. Page Motors in Ferndown(near Bournemouth) rewplaced the thermostat for a new unit with the comment that there are in fact two models of thermostat which cut out and recycle on/off at two separate temperatures. A local Volvo specialist in Hampshire told me that the wiring becoming displaced was a common fault, and usually caused by objects under the seat. I shall be placing a cable tidy or such like cable manager around the cables as soon as. Ta for the warning.

Burned bum
Hi, Just bought an 850 Estate and have narrowly escaped a burn hole in my pants!, there is a small burn hole in the middle of the seat having used them for the first time.

recall uk
My 850R (96) was already due for a heated seat recall (I was notified by a genuine Volvo Dealer in the north west. This was about 2yrs go. It was already on the Volvo database as an outstanding recall. So yes, they knew.

Alternative uses for the heated seat circuit
Thanks for this information.
I have now disconnected both of the seats. To be honest they were seldom used anyway. I would like to use the wiring for something else. Maybe some low level under seat lighting. Any other ideas?

Hi I can confirm that volvo does indeed have a recall on the heated seat problem if you do a search on this forum you should find all you need to know . When I had a 1997 855 tdi 2 years ago i heard about the problem and contacted my local dealer ( Motorworld Volvo Oxford ) quoted the chassis number and they told me it would need the modification . They booked it in and completed the mod all free of any charge . Remember this was an 8 year old car at the time .
The mod by the way consisted of replacing the short thermostat wiring loom under the seat with a modified loom that does not use the thermostat. |

I have a 96 N 855.
I had the car in at the main dealer for a whole list of jobs and a big bill. Car is great now. They checked unknown to me if the seat recall had been done on my car - it hadn't and they fixed for free as any dealer will so don't panic! |
