As Andy said better than I seemed to be able to, I'dve wagered money it being those contacts behind the nylon wheel, they're the self-park contacts I was talking about.
Did the replacement motor come with it's gearbox, or did you use your existing one? |

Unfortunately, I replaced the unit and no joy. Yes, the 'gearbox' is within this replacement unit. Tomorrow, I am going to clean and solder the wires I posted earlier. I'll get there eventually I'm sure. Grateful for this forum as all this diagnostics/fiddling at Volvo specialist rates would have bankrupted me by now! |

Well..... I did the soldering that I mentioned and there's been no change.
I took it for a drive and had no wipers for the first 15 minutes. Then they came on of their own accord. I couldn't switch them off, so they stayed on for about 10 minutes until they stopped by themselves. I'm at a loss and, unless anyone has any ideas, I think I'll have to admit defeat and take it to an auto electrician |

At this point, i'm wondering what happens at the other end of those wires, wherever they lead. Which won't be easy to find.
Has someone been fiddling before you got it? A kind've "just enough to get it sold" repair, with a piece of old telephone cable and some masking tape... Seen it before... |

This nonsense started about a year after I bought the car though. |

Yeah, I'm at that stage I think. Will look into that PM about diagnostics. Thanks. Was unable to reply as I haven't had 30 posts (?).
Anyway, it looks like following wires around the engine and analysing wiring diagrams are my only realistic DIY options. That's not something I'm confident with, so any recommendations for Sussex auto-electricians gratefully received !! |

I got an auto electrician to take a look.
He reckons I need to get in touch with BBA Reman to fix the CEM which is generating a Can Bus Error, according to his diagnostic software... |

Finally! It's fixed. Wipers back to normal
Thanks for everyone's input. Bought a used CEM from eBay & sent it, along with mine to Horison Ltd (via eBay) for reprogramming. The. End. |
