Fastest way is to chuck it out a plane at 30,000 feet.

Probably was me, was it Saturday afternoon?

Do you live locally then?

I think it was Saturday. I live at Stone Cross, just a couple of miles from Great Bridge. You drove past me as I was getting back to my car. So sad when watching a Volvo estate in a supermarket car-park can make me dribble.....lol

There sem to be quite a few of us in the Black Country. Must be great to show the boy racers a bit of turbo induced fun. I've been promising myself for ages ( ever isince I saw how fast BBQ's and Suterman's cars went) that I'll turbo mine. I really must make a conserted effort in the new year. A Volvo meet at Asda would make a change from the usual saxo/corsa brigade there

I think the autocar test is wrong. Maybe that's all they got it up to on their test, but I'm sure I've seen both 127mph and 135mph bandied about as figures for the V6. It certainly used to slow down after about 115mph(indicated) and would really start to struggle above the 130ish mark. Assuming a 10% error in the speedo then that gives 103.5mph as easily attainable and 117mph being when it struggles with 126mph being 'off the clock'. This would tend to support the 127mph max speed claim.

A 760 turbo with 12bhp extra over the V6 that I had also managed to go off the clock, and my 960 (also with 170bhp) will reach 130 on the speedo with relative ease.
Mine will be getting a very good service in the next couple of weeks to get her cleaned up and running a little more aggressively - I may even try and persuade my mechanics to let me strap her to their rolling road to see what she is producing.

As a reference point - my old E280 (1994 model - with 24Valve head - 193PS) would top out at an indicated 140mph - and my gut feeling was that was only 4-5mph fast. I have been blessed in recent years with good access to the German autobahns, so have made it a challenge to top out each car I have had.

I failed with the V70 T5 (only nudging an indicated 148mph) but had success with an Alfa 156 2.0, a Vectra V6 (a dizzy 152mph - which I think was more impart to the generous speedo then the engine pulling stronger than 170PS and a low CD), the Z4 (155mph on the limiter - and NO I couldnt punch through in 5th), Foci (Diesel and Petrol) and of course the Volvo 740 GL (B200E) which posted a highly impressive 118mph (which I reckoned was around the 112mph) mark.

Perhaps the 760 will creep up to 125mph - maybe I need to make a trip to Germany in the near future to find out

Anyway tonight I drive back to Zurich - 680 miles from London - in the Z4 - should be fun

I remember 20 years ago driving my 240 GLT in Germany from Munich to Stuttgart doing 125 mph on the speedo which felt fast at the time. Think it might have wound up a bit more.
