"Black boxes" for insurance

.I must admit to missing the point a bit mate, but motorists in this country iMO are persecuted more than criminals. We pay so much for the right to drive it pi##es me right off. I have been stitched up once or twice by insurance companies amd have always lost out after a claim. I have claimed twice in over 20 years of driving and have been shafted both times. Insurance companies only bring in laws to suit themselves and I always think its something else they can use against you if you have to claim.
If it works for you,fine,but I'm interested in what happens in the event of a claim? Is it just another loophole they can wriggle out of, or am I being paranoid?

I see why you are concerned and your concerns are valid. In the event of a crash if I am doing 65mph and claim they could turn round and say I was over the limit and won't pay out.

I'm not sure how co-op are for claims though. Would be interesting to hear anyone's experience regardless of the policy.

Black boxes are probably already in more cars than we realise. Event data recorders are in Range Rovers for example, and can determine speeds in the event of a crash, so its probably likely they are in other vehicles too. Can and will be used in a claim/court case etc.

Some do not rely on GPS, just a record of the data a few seconds prior to say an accident.

Data collected how? I doubt no one will allow more than a simple power supply lead? so the location etc has to be collected somehow ?

The more i read about these boxes (tracker's) the more it reminds me of where i use to work,
We were called into a meeting to state trackers were being fitted to our vans not to monitor us but to help with insurance prices all was well for 6 months once all the trackers had been fitted with no problems then just out of the blue the rules changed people were being watched, tracked and monitored people were being brought in left right and centre for disciplinary's.
The point im trying to get across is all companys bring new things in with brilliant idea's to give to the customer just look at gas and the prices now.
But what insurance companys will do is try to find out any way possible that the crash etc etc was your fault and will do there very best not to pay out and state you broke the conditions of the policy.
Just remember these boxes will be saving and transmitting ALL the data about your driving styles etc.
Certainly not for me each to there own but dont balme us that dont want them when it goes pear shaped.

These boxes certainly have their downsides as pointed out in here. It is a concern how a claim could be denied by the data the box provides. The upside is the massive savings of course.

Guess we'll need to sit back and see how things go. For younger drivers I feel it's a viable option to cut down running costs.

No saving at all..... despite what you think. All insurance will be up another 40% within 2 years i believe . They know you need air to live and insurance to drive. we will be forced to go without other things in order to drive


I am looking into how to get around this . I can register my car in Ireland if necessary
i will not take part in this farce
