Interesting drive in the p2 yesterday, 1st thing I noticed when I looked underneath was a disconnected plug on the rear diff so plugged it back in to see if any more messages came up and then went for a drive. Pulled really well and felt nice and taut until soot filter full message came up followed by oil level low and the inevitable engine service required, so two messages became five! Shame really as it was nice and tidy and was a really high spec car with sat nav 4c suspension and premium sound system, does the sub in the boot really need to be that big!

There are good P3 V70's out there in your price range but you have to be patient and wait for the right one.

I was in a similar situation last year where I was looking at 05-07 P2's (New dog so needed an estate) with about a £4000 budget but kept stumbling across higher mileage P3's.

The newer V70's are much more modern and with a far superior interior design and quality are very tempting cars. I reckon that about 80% of the high mileage V70's I saw were just a bit too neglected/worn but one eventually popped up that was just too good to miss.

A one owner 58 V70 2.0d Volvo Ocean Race with immaculate exterior and interior and full Volvo service history. It had 197,000 miles when I bought it in December last year and I have now got it up to 203,000 with no sign of trouble. The only thing that is slightly annoying is the rear parking sensors are a bit temperamental, sometimes they don't work but the majority of the time they are fine. Not a big deal for me and the VOR double stitching and design features are sublime.

I paid £3995 for it and have seen one recently on Autotrader for £10,000!! It has 70k less mileage but I still think I've got a bargain.

I also like the limited edition aspect of it and have not seen another V70 VOR on the road at all which makes me feel I'm in a special car.

Keep looking, the right car will come up!

The torque output from the 5 pot is more than adequate for me. (Well maybe a Polestar uprate this year. )
The geartronic boxes also adapt to driver behavior. If you slam the accelerator into the carpet the take off will be a different experience to say if you take 2 seconds to gradually press the accelerator pedal all the way down.

Try it and see... they can be more sporty but you have to forget mechanical sympathy.

I'm selling my 2009 v70 2.4d later this year, will be close to 120k, fsh- belts done last year. I'll be looking for 5k so your 4.5k budget should find a decent one
