I still use main dealers for genuine parts when they're competitive (and they are competitive on occasion) but there are huge savings to be had across your whole car.
The best advice I could give anyone would be to get Vida then you have every part number for your car then research who makes your parts (nearly always printed on the genuine part). Literally undreds of pounds can be saved during your ownership for the sake of a few minutes looking and Googling.

It was dropped off this morning (by the wife) it's in for MOT too, but the work is extra so it'll get done when it's done
I'll report back how much swearing was used to get it off. I've already priced up a new CV joint just in case. The one that was changed on the OSF last year was effectively drilled out it was that bad. But he's a sound lad so I'll wait and see the outcome |

Nope... 50 tonne press and it's not going anywhere.
New (second hand) hub assembly required with drive shaft (won't sell just the CV joint on it's own) £155 shipped. All this for a bloody £5 speed sensor ring!!! |

Where did you sourced the shaft and hub? Can we apply antiseize or copper grease on the splines? Thank you.

Huddersfield Volvo Breakers... in ... Huddersfield
That price is delivered too, AND it is already separated. It'll be getting a good dollop of grease before it goes back on. So ... I've currently spent £355 (£180 on stuff I wanted anyway after my old jack and axle stands were nicked) to change a £6 part. And I haven't had the garage bill yet |

My advice... if you can't get it off with reasonable banging in a reasonable amount of time, forget getting work done on it and fork out £155 for a replacement hub and axle from a breakers (you could probably get it cheaper, but I was under time pressure!)
Alternatively, a replacement hub and new CV joint would do the job (and new CV joint on it's own is less than a breaker axle with the CV joint/ stub axle combo) Garage bill (and this is mates rates for 16 hours of graft and an MOT) was £500. If you don't have a friend in the trade who's light on work, I'd imagine this amount would be considerably higher. So all in at this point, £890 to swap a £6 part over. Now to sort the sodding parking brake (the only MOT fail apart from 2 bulbs) A job for the weekend |

So, 490 in parts and 500 for labor?
That's a lot FD. You reckon to buy axle with the hub as well attached as a whole set if it is not budging? Thank you

£390 (maths, lol )
TBF, a chunk of that £390 included purchasing trolley jack and axle stands after mine were nicked a couple of years ago. If you can't get it off with reasonable force... I wouldn't bother. As I said, my garage fella had 50 tonne on it and it wasn't budging. You could try getting the garage to have a go, but don't let them spend more than an hour (of your time/money) trying to get it off. Just go with the cheaper short term option of the replacement. Like I said, my mate charged me mates rates for his time. I'm not sure how much a non-mates rates cost would stack up. If I had the time (which I didn't... it needed to be back on the road) I'd have bought a new CV joint and second hand hub. The cost would have been the same. I opted to just get everything sorted and done for the £155 cost. |
