Just a thought.
I was currently working on a PIC based simulator that take the signal from MAF sensor and gives a 0.1-0.6 V output to the DPF sensor , but came to the conclusion that the PIC can be replaced with a simple resistor divider) in theory atleast). The idea is : The MAF gives out 0-5 V depending on the amount of air sucked in by the engine = load , divide this signal by say 7-10 times and feed back to the DPF sensor and you will get a nice linear signal in the range of 0-0.5-0.7 V (or whatever you want/need) depending on engine load thus fooling the ECU even better = no DTCs at all. The eolys tank will also be filled with cerosene / injection cleaner (because I don´t fancy any bacteria/algee buildup in this tank and in Sweden all diesel is mixed with 5-7% FAME/RME crap) and ofcourse the counter for both ADM and DPF zeroed in vida What do you guys think about this idea ? Myfilter is already past it´s expected lifespan by 20000 km so I guess no harm in experimenting. |

Hi Stew, sorry to trouble you but just a quick question. How is your car running now after you removed dpf and confused ecu??
I have been quoted £240 to refill the fuel additive and would rather go through the avenue of total removal or something similiar you did..kindly advise? |

I've just done this mod as my (new to me) 05 2.0 se s40 was randomly going completely flat, no boost what so ever.
Dealer suggested I change: - 8663796 gasket ? £4.80 30757183 sensor ? £93.00 36050309 particulate filter (dpf?) £400.50 Then come back, re set the codes and see if that sorts it or else it's something else. £600 just in parts to see if that fixes it... I don't think so. So I popped in to maplins and when I got home I gutted the dpf and wired in the potentiometer and turned it down to 0.35 volts (350 milli volts). I needed 15mm/17mm socket and spanner and the egt sensor (14mm) can be disconnected on the sub frame and then taken out when you get the dpf off the car. The filter was really sooted up, but only on the surface facing the engine. I was surprised the engine could run the way it was. I took it all out and re-fitted it. The car runs really well and I did a 200 mile trip without problem... however... in the lake district after going up some steep inclines the engine went into some sort of limp mode. Better than before in that there is some (very little) boost but it would only rev up to around 2800 rpm. Getting really fed up with this now, but I know there is a lovely car there under all these problems. Re: soot, there is definately more soot when you come on boost but if you accelerate a couple of thimes this then clears up. I'm guessing the soot build up under normal driving then gets blasted out when there is increased air flow through the exhaust. Any suggestions or further reading? This is my first Volvo and I really do like the car although I feel I'm in at the deep end |

Have you thought about having the DPF removed completely? This is something we can do in software and once it's gone, it's gone forever, and MPG tends to get better also.

I definately have, although I want to get the car running properly before remapping.
I've got a feeling it may be the egr valve which I'll hopefully be taking off and cleaning this week. How much would the remap cost? |

Absolutely I agree, a car needs to be running properly before a remap, unless of course the remap will solve the problem that you're experencing (such as DPF faults or EGR faults).
We have a couple of options for the 1.6D 2.0D and D5: Stage 0 DPF delete without a power increase: £449 including VAT (includes labour and ECU reprogramming) Stage 1 DPF delete with power increase: £739 including VAT (includes labour and ECU reprogramming with power)

Thanks for the reply.
Unfortunately I can't afford to spend that much on a remap. I'll just make do with standard for now. |
