Quick scan of suppliers:
www.buypartsby.co.uk - £80.54
www.caraccessoriesandparts.co.uk - £85.99
www.boschbatteries.com - £89.99
www.eurocarparts.com - £99.54
www.halfords.com - £122.99

These are for a Bosch S5 008 77Ah delivered (not Halfords but they will fit for £4.99)

The variation is frightening.

surely as volvo is a chinese company then the "volvo" battery has long gone ,i doubt chinese companies are still trading with the manufacturer that made the volvo battery of old? if of-course they didnt just re badge someone else's parts even then.
wee presuming there is a "volvo" battery maker that only supplies volvo if they dont then if volvo battery is no more than the clone one for another car manufacturer then its merely a mark upped rebadged nothing special battery.
i doubt very much if the chinese gov stumped any cash to help buy volvo they would entertain the concept of a non chinese company supplying parts for it unless it was priced the same or less for its products ,and if you can compete with the chinese then quality has to be low ,the specs for anything probably have a wide span for quality control measures and probably you can easily make a battery at low cost to those specs at the bottom of the zone just as you can make one at a higher price to the top of the zone.
if the specs were tight you would be scrapping untold numbers of batteries just outside of them

I think you will find the retail price of a volvo 520A battery is less than all of those .
