Ouch!!

At least your back up and running though?? Did you try cleaning the contacts and re-inserting the CEM prior to letting the dealer change it??

Was the £749 all in including update labor and fitting?

When I rang for a quote I was quoted £600 + Vat for the CEM alone. Then £150 + vat update and just under £300 labor from Volvo Preston.

Preston are taking the Fn P!ss if that is the case.

It is a 10 min job to replace CEM and perhaps a 15min to do software reload so I would estimate only 30min labour should be charges. Perhaps one of the Volvo techs can confirm how long the book says for Volvo for this job.

I asked at the time because I was quite taken a back and was told several hours labor from start to finish. That is appalling service unless someone has made quite a mistake?

Sat in Volvo preston now for my new CEM. Quoted £1100. After majorly kicking off got it down to £871. Still not happy. Will report back on service and fix. They suggest I need new wiring looms too...win!

Just an update. Had another REDUCED ENGINE PERFORMANCE message.

The garage I bought it from took it back and gave it to Volvo. They've come back saying it needs a throttle position sensor and an upgraded wiring loom.

£470 quid in total. Glad im not paying!

Asked how much for a new spare key - £177! Oof.

Going to have a diagnostic now at £98 an hour + vat.

They're going to get back to me with what I need - parts should arrive at 3.

Car was dropped off between 9:30 and 10. I was told that the master mechanic would look it over and get back to me within the hour. I didn't get a call. I was also told it would take 2.7 hours to complete and that they would strip everything down and test it before the part arrived at 3 and that it would be ready for collection at 4. It wasn't.

I phoned at 3. Was told they were busy and to try later. I phoned just before 5 and was told I would be called straight back with an update. I wasn't.

I then called a third time at half 6 and got through to reception who told me everyone had gone home and she didn't know what was happening with my car. I asked if she could find out for me as I was meant to have already picked it up. She told me she would phone the mechanic and ring me back.

At just before 6 I had the return phone call. I was told the master mechanic wasn't in tomorrow (Saturday) and that the new CEM hadn't been fitted because there might be a faulty wire. I was further told this would take between an hour and two to diagnose at £98 + vat an hour plus any new parts. Then she told me my car probably won't be ready till Monday or Tuesday.

School starts back on Monday, an 80 mile round trip and 12+ hour days. I haven't even considered how I'm going to get there without my car. I would have expected much better service than this for over £1000. Ah well - rock and a hard place.

Will keep you posted if I hear back tomorrow - fingers crossed.
