resistor
Got mine built at work so I could figure out the rotary switch connections and found my LED was knackered. Got it all working. Was adised a resistor would be useful to stop the LED burning out so put in a 1K one. Tried it out and got 1-1-1 so all good.

If the LED is not bright enough you should be able to get away with a much lower value resistor. About 500ohms should be fine.
Update on the code readers: Mostly built, just awaiting knobs (!) Once they've arrived I'll test the readers and let you know. |

led
I didn't have any near to 500 , it was 180 or 1000. The LED is pretty big so it's bright enough. The slightly cr@p running and high CO was due to the end bit of a spark plug missing! Christ knows how it had come off, so the HT lead didn't grip very well. I did get 30mpg driving from Lincolnshire to Salford though probably due to the 50 mph restrictions on the M1 and M62. It was 2000 rpm at 50 for most of the way there:- 250 miles on half a tank.

OBS code readers.
Five code readers built and tested. One already on it's way.
The other four: OBD reader by crogthomas, on Flickr I've tested them all for use with Ignition (I), Fuel (F) and ABS (A), but not Cruise Control (C) because my car doesn't have it. No reason to believe it wouldn't work though. Instructions for using the code reader (and doing other clever stuff) can be found here: http://www.volvoclub.org.uk/faq/Engi...agnosticCodesi Plus I've put the basics on the back so it can be left in the glovebox for reading and erasing codes whilst using the car. Can the five people on the first list contact me to let me know if they still want one. Thanks! |

Thanks Craig, received today in post. Can't wait to play with my new toy, hoping for boring results of 1-1-1

As I started this thread its time to finish it, Many thanks to CrogThomas for his help.
For those who missed out I got mine from globetrotter and he makes a small reader and a mirco one. Like these: It comes with fault code list, he builds to order. Hope this helps those who missed out.
