sorry...
...to learn of your experiences. At the centre of your justified grievance is the lack of proportionality. The police target easy pickings from decent people like yourself when in fact they should be chasing criminal low-lives.
Also the majority of motoring offences are strict liability, ie the crown only has to prove that you did something, not that you intended to do so; compare that with assault, where the crown has to prove firstly that you did a guilty act and secondly that you intended to do so. The police long along lost the respect of many right-thinking citizens. Not all police are incompetent, lazy, or unprofessional. But too many of them are like that. It would be funny if it were not more serious. |

Sounds to me as though the cops were disgruntled with their jobs, government policy, pension and pay etc and were out to make mischievous trouble. A bit like "plebgate"

Really surprised to see the way the motorcycle cops ride these days. Heads swivelling left and right on the lookout for easy pickings - not exactly as per the roadcraft manual, wonder if this will be reflected in the polak stats.

I was stopped several years ago as a random stop and check whilst driving the missus' car. I was fully comp on my car, she was fully comp on hers. Different insurers (mine was RAC) Long storey short as I had not studied the fine print when the policy docs arrived and it had not been raised as a specific point when I purchased the insurance I was completely unaware that I no longer had the usual fully comp perk of driving other cars third party only. £250 fine, six points and enhanced premiums for the next few years. Moral of the story is check your policy very carefully because you wouldn't want to be driving uninsured now |

Additionally with CIE in place it means the vehicle has to be insured by someone and taxed and vice versa. My only caveat with certain police officers is over reliance on the MID database assuming if a car is not on there it is uninsured this clearly is not always the case. |

I got stopped a few months ago in my E reg Escort. It was a tidy car and fully legal. I was driving to Essex and I saw an ANPR van and a m/cycle cop but thought nothing of it. Anyway, a few seconds after I passed the van, the cop peeled out and I wondered who he was after. Imagine my surprise when he pulled along side and asked me to follow him. Like I was going to outpace him in a 1989 1.3 Escort lol.
We eventually stopped at a service station about 10 mins away and he said that the ANPR showed me as being uninsured. I said that I had paid for insurance a couple of weeks earlier and told him who with and even how much I paid. He checked on the MIB database and then spoke with the insurance company. It transpired that they had recorded the reg number as one digit out. Prats. It was something that I just hadn't noticed on the policy document. He was a decent sort and said that the company were sorting it out and that they would send me a new document. He wished me an enjoyable day and gave me no hassle or attitude whatsoever. |

lots of the 3rd party extensions exclude spouses cars, or cars registered at same address, always worth reading the small print as others have said

Simple solution is to be named driver on each others policy. If my other half only had 3rd party cover & wrecked my car, I'd not be best pleased. It seems having a female named driver on your policy can actually reduce the premium so really it's a win / win situation.

Easy solution to problem. Drive within the speed limits, wear your belt at all times, make sure that your car and papers are up to scratch. Simple.
