Im not disagreeing, and thank you for the feedback.
Its good to see someone with a good mpg from a D5.

Im trying to decide between the 2.0D or the D5

would be interested to hear what the mpg is like after a few weeks.
Keep me posted?

Personally i'd hold out for a D5...It took me awhile to get the right one, colour, spec etc.. and dont get me wrong was very tempted to get a 2.0d but i then knew i would kick myself for not having the D5, and boy am i so glad i waited that extra week! lol

Having come from a car doing 20mpg around town, 30mpg motorway and 23mpg towing a large single axle van....this D5 Geartronic is superb! Really, i mean superb! I guess its a tried and tested engine/drivetrain. Also to add, what do you gain from a 2.0d...5mpg more on average if your lucky maybe?

And sorry if i came over a bit abrupt...and yes i will keep you updated as to what i get on the urban side of things

If you get 50+ on a long run and 38 in daily suburban driving, it is similar to what I got from my Mondeo 5-tronic (same or similar gearbox) with a 115hp 2-litre diesel. But consumption dropped to around 40 if I sat on 80+ mph and to get better than 50 I usually had to keep speed under 65. Best I ever saw was 56 mph over a long run with an avg speed of around 40-45 mph.

I migrated from a vw 2.0 tdi golf and purchased a 2.0d sport.

Althought I think my volvo is a peach of a car that cruises like a dream, i dont think it is mechanically as good as the vw I had.

It dosent feel as flexable as vw and is noware near as good on diesel as the vw was.

But saying that if you get a sports se model in the right colour, you will never get tiried of cleaning it!

Deffently worth hanging out for a d5 if you have the budget.

Hi,
Can I ask what mpg you got from the golf, and what you get now from the V50?

Are they both Autos?

Hi
The 70 is far superior in every way to the 50.Gearbox...the gaytronic is ok but does not compare to similar versions from the better manufacturers, but for heavy town driving in auto is fine and easier than man so you could say has advantages.I currently have 2 D5 one man ,one gaytronic.I would have another Gaytronic but in a T5 in the older p 2 cars, but the first choice would be man/ petrol.
As for MPG i think about 350 miles on a tank (urban),probably less if i try .If you want D5 economy you need the older 163 D5, dont trust the in car computer they're as truthfull as a tory mp.
