Yeah a few people I know have run the 888's and reported grip levels to be outstanding which will obviously help with carrying speed as you describe. It's impressive to see exactly how much more speed you are able to keep with the 888's considering the size etc of the car. Goodwood doesn't have much run off in many places either so your braver than I

There is certainly an advantage to knowing the track - as Steve has said he had an opportunity to drive around 80 miles 'round the track the day before and the same last year - we only get five runs on the day so not much of an opportunity for me to really get a decent practice in increasing my speeds!
I'm a bit behind with tyres, brake pads and wheels as I'm running standard. From speaking to Steve about the 888s they make a big difference in cornering and braking and the Team Dynamics are lighter than the Volvo alloys. Carbotech pads also give the opportinity for later braking when going into corners. I will be fitting Team Dynamic alloys and road-legal track tyres in the near future, so look forward to seeing a possible improvement in my times! The Carbotechs will probably be fitted next season. All I need is some practice at Goodwood! The biggest difference in getting faster is not out and out horsepower, it's handling in and out of corners and pushing the car to its limits with confident knowledge of a track. With more grip and increased braking it's possible to improve times. 10/10 to Steve on his oustanding times as he really shows what is possible in our heavy Refined cars! Iain

Two Club Sprint 2010
Two Club Sprint @ Colerne 2010 part of the British Sprint/ASWMC/BMC Speed Championships Bank holiday Monday sunshine and a runway to play on don’t get much better than this! Iain was already there and signed on by the time I arrived so I parked up and started to get sorted out. Out came the 4 Team Dynamic Pro Race alloys shod in Toyo 888’s tools and other associated stuff, the car was ready to go in no time at all. Met up with Iain and got signed on shortly after signing on we did a sighting lap. Iain now runs the same alloys and tyres as I do as a result his times have improved as well, he has also had an up rated intercooler with reverse pipe work since he last raced at this event. At this event each competitor gets two timed practice runs then two timed runs in the afternoon, my times were: Practice Run 1: 93.08 sec Practice Run 2: 90.98 sec Race Run 1: 91.76 sec Race Run 2: 89.87 sec Iain’s times were: Practice Run 1: 93.87 sec Practice Run 2: 93.42 sec Race Run 1: 93.22 sec Race Run 2: 92.66 sec My times for Two Club Sprint last year: Race Run 1: 97.68 sec Race Run 2: 95.75 sec Iain’s times for last year: Race Run 1: 98.17 sec Race Run 2: 94.47 sec |

Pegusus 2010 Sprint
My last sprint of this season was a bit of a cautious afair due to my brake pads being a tad thinner than I first realized, having only 1.5mm of meat left on them meant I had to be a little more cautious than normal, I had a lot of pedal travel and some brake fade towards the end of the lap, hence the last run of the day was a bit off pace.
The practice run is two laps of Castle Combe with only the first lap timed the speed at wich you crossed the line was also recorded, here is a vid of the practice and our times: My time: 91.52 seconds Speed crossing the line: 89.2mph IC: 92.87 seconds Speed crossing the line: 88.5mph Chris in his BMW: 101.06 seconds Speed crossing the line: 81.7mph
My first time run saw me get a slightly better time than practice but my speed crossing the line was much slower. 1st Run My time: 91.12 secs Speed crossing the line 83.9mph IC time: 93.75 secs Speed crossing the line 83.9mph Chris: 98.87 secs Speed crossing the line 80.3mph
2nd Run My time: 93.09 secs Speed crossing the line 84.5mph IC time: 93.05 secs Speed crossing the line 84.8mph Chris: 97.36 secs Speed crossing the line 82.5mph This vid is only of the clocks as I want to see what rev range the engine goes through whilst on track, it may be of interest to some hence the reason for posting this one.

VOLVO OWNERS CLUB MOTOR SPORT CHALLENGE 2010 Just a quick update to finish the 2010 season off At the end of the 13th Season of VOC Motor Sport Challenge the final points table and award winners have been ascertained. So ends another good season with sprints, hill climbs and rallies competed by VOC members. Many venues have been visited around the country and we have all enjoyed a competitive and friendly championship. Here is to another exciting year in 2011 and long may it continue. The VOC Motor Sport Challenge as always would like to see more competitors as motor sport goes sprints are fairly inexpensive to compete in. I will however be competing at various sprints in the South West and perhaps further afield. My automatic 850 R has done very well and suprised one or two people. I will now be using my S60 R in the vain hope that I can get closer to competing with Evo's and Scooby's on track. I reckon it will take a while to get decent times so I will be hopefully doing a fair amount of track time and shake downs so I can get used to the AWD system and manual gear box. Here is a few pics of the car going around Castle Combe: |
