Really? They are very common in the USA. Many 854s and S70s have them. If you guys want me to gather some from the junkyard, perhaps we could trade for some bits that are rare to me but more common to you?

It sounds like the 855 heated rear seats are more common in the UK/EU. They are merely a legend in the USA.

Heated rear seats are pretty rare over here also. I know they are available but the many I've seen in scrapyards have never had it fitted. I'd say its around 50% have the front heated seats.

I like the idea of the antenna down switch. I might be interested.

You can fit seat heater elements and power them via the Volvo switches and wiring but to extract the heater mats from a seat will destroy the seat as the heater mat is bonded to the foam base with very high strength glue, I have taken them out but I certainly wouldn't want to refit them post removal!

A set of four heater mats and control switches/ relays etc that you need for the two front seats will cost around £40/ $60 then add in the cost of the switches from the scrap yard, the wiring is already in the car waiting to be used - Mike

For the heated rear seats the most complicated is to find the relay (it's a special one in the 850). On Laga.se there are some from time to time

The switches in the back are also different from the front ones. They are the same as the one for the rear window defrost. So in order to get some buy 2 switches for the front and 2 switches for the defrost function. Take out the small decal which has the logo from the heating switches and replace the ones from the defrost switch ---> now you have 2 switches for the back.

The wiring loom inside the tunnel console is also missing but it's pretty easy to make, Volvo wants 180€ for it!!!

Now you only need the mats and the thermostats.
Or you can buy some carbon heating pads. If you do this you have to rewire a little as the Volvo pads are working in series whereas the carbon ones must be wired in parallel. Otherwise the resistance is too high and the carbon mats will not heat up.
Fitting the mats under the seat cover is somewhat cumbersome but deffinetely doable (done it 4 or 5 times so far)

The original parking heater is to be mounted beneath the car under the rear seat. It has a timer which can store 2 different starting time. The electrics are pretty simple if you have ECC as only one wire is connected to the ECC module and the rest is done by the ECC unit.

I installed 2 of them in 850 one with ECC ( a bliss ) and MCC (where I had to make the special harness which connects the heater to the blower fan...

I ordered at Volvo the genuine installing instructions and scanned them:

If you get one of those I can only suggest to replace the water hoses as they are old (the heaters are as old as the cars) and also they sit under the car which is not so good for them.

In my car I have a Webasto Thermo Top which is newer (2004) and has a remote controlled start. Yesterday I also bought the timer
