Another overlooked "conversion" of a similar era is a Triumph Stag Estate, based on a 2500S/PI estate but a new Stag engine fitted in place with the accompanying Stag brakes, suspension etc. Originally created by Del Lines and sold (i think) about 100 of them until BL pulled the plug on supplying him with new engines. Always fancied one of them as a dog-mobile or maybe a Rover P6B Estoura..........

Stag estate, mmm yes please, I was at a show early last summer and a couple well into their 80’s had a jaw dropping dark green 2500 estate, complete with wicker hamper and period Thermos flasks. Probably these days the ‘no major alterations’ or it needs certification has knocked the madcap conversions on its head. Although I’m on Morris Forum, and a chap on there doing a Morris 8 special, hand rolled body with a supercharged engine. Madness, but the quality of the workmanship is astounding. Cheers Steve |

Several years ago when there used to be a Monthly All Rover meet at a pub in Melbourne on the first saturday of the month, there was an SD1 owner who had a white Triumph 2500S estate auto - he lived in Basingstoke and that was his nearest meet! Never got to see his SD1 (or was it a P6? Can't remember now!) and he didn't make it that often due to the distance and shift work. Very nice Triumph though!

It doesn't look much, just a bit of rust here and there but it is all in structural positions that only shows when it's rotted (spectacularly) behind the scenes and finally you get to see a bubble here and there. Also it's in Frinton-on-Sea - strong with this one, the sea-breeze effect is!

Someone who likes welding (a lot!) and has an inner passion for a red, 2.0L 240 estate might rescue it but the overall appearance sys it's only worth spares at the moment. Give it 10 years when there are fewer good/better 240 estates around and someone desperate to own/restore one would snap it up in a heartbeat - or should that be sweep it up in a dustpan?
