When I was 18 I had a 240dl a real beauty. She maxed out frequently at exactly 100mph on the speedo.
My 760T with the mods i've done is very fast upto an indicated 115mph and still pulling strong at that speed. I'm not too sure what revs its doing at that speed, cant remember, but theres definitely lots more left in her.

It having the bottle to keep going once you have reached a high speed. The highest speed I have driven was about 135 mph in my V70 T5 in Germany but I remember driving my dads Dolomite Sprint at 120 mph and felt I was motoring.

I will try and post when I get chance tomorrow - I will call up a Volvo dealership who have a number of interesting V70s - 2*2003 Rs, 2* 2008 Rs (already discounted by 10000CHF). and some new V70s - which I will try and play with.
It is not so much about maintaining "your bottle" at high speeds, but being aware of other traffic. The big open sections of autobahn up towards Koln and Frankfurt can be great when it is quiet - but when it gets busy forget high speed runs. Big speeds should be approached with caution and also progressively. If you do 130mph when you are used to 80mph then you are asking for trouble. The nighttime weather across Europe (Reim, Lux, Strasbourg, Zurich) is around 1-3c - with sleet expected in Zurich overnight. Last time I checked 248PS (the Z4 has been remapped + uprated exhaust), RWD, sub 5c temps and sleet is not a good combination. My hopes to crack 6hr45mins for the 850km from Calais to Zurich look poor! Last edited by dodgyken; Nov 9th, 2007 at 10:23. |

Its not the speed in itself which i worry about. I drive my friends new
Audi RS4 414bhp hard and fast. Its the penalties for getting caught that scare me. Dont get me wrong I love going fast when the circumstances allow, on the open road, in the right weather etc. Around town I always try to stick to the limits, 20-40 mph in a built up area is fast enough.

The ability to overtake quickly is more important than 0-60 or top speed.

Well I made it to Zurich.
853km from Calais in 6 hours 35 minutes. I was never very good at maths so I have no idea of mz AVERAGE speed. But in Germany she did nudge past 150mph briefly - before good sense took hold |
