Thanks for the info. I'm thinking of the new RICA 'ecomomy' remap. It costs c. £400.00 & Vat but as I want to hang on to the car and the my annual milage (18K) I think it is worth it.
Any comments? |

the RICA upgrade was quoted at £440! - probably not worth it. I think I'll change the car and avoid the D5.
Again, I think this a really great car let down by a crap engine. Volvo need to get their act together. The Audi A6 is not that more expensive than a v70! |

I think I am doing pretty well.
2009 XC70 d5, now with 9000 miles. Tyres on "Eco" pressure. Computer says 38.4 mpg. When I measure brim-to-brim, I think it's nearer 40.4 mpg (the onboard computer reads a couple of mpg "light" - interestingly my mates BMW reads the other way - he gets less actual mpg than the computer would have you believe!). Also average speed (on computer) reads 48 mph, so you get the idea most of my journeys are long journeys (not used around town very often). I'm pretty happy at 40mpg, but of course, a bit more would be great! |

Mine is certainly better than it was new - and I can achieve "book" numbers on mixed driving.

I'm getting over 40mpg now (geartronic), and happy at that. Most of my colleagues drive Audi, Merc, Beemer and similar "exec" cars - when we chat about cars in the office, the Volvo is just as good or better at mpg compared like-for-like... If you want 55mpg buy a small diesel 1-series BMW. If you want a large, exec car with space and build quality (as well as 4wd and geartronic) the Volvo's hard to beat... ETA -
Sorry, but I am one of the unhappy V70 P3 owners who used to clear 50+MPG with the old cars (2004-7) but cannot get more than low/mid-40s with generation 3 D5 (>2008), If anyone is running a 205BHP V70 D5, would be interested in your real-life MPG. |
