Apart from the timing issue, did you manage to successfully change the pulley without removing the alternator?

Had this pulley issue myself last year,

Bought one of ebay, £45 as I recall..

just whipped alternator off, took it to a friendly garage, fluttered my eyelashes...

£5 lighter, alternator back on, been absolutely fine
( I just touched my oak coffee table, i'm not supersticious, but you need some sort of back up if using ebay)

Has anybody here managed to change the pulley without removing the alternator?

It looks as though it might be possible with good strong tools, although I can just imagine how tight the pulley will be on the shaft.

I need to change mine (2002 V70 petrol, non-turbo).

it is not that hard to remove the alternator.

On my non turbo, I didn't remove the radiator fan as in the video. I also did not disconnect the upper radiator hose because it's messy. I emptied the power steering reservoir, disconnected the return hose to the pump, tossed the dipstick tube, passed the pump under the radiator hose to the right, then the alternator comes out from above right away. The tricky part was to loosen the two lower a/c compressor bolts: these are long bolts and may seize inside the compressor bracket.

It can be done. I've seen pics on another site but wasn't impressed by the two foot extension scaffold bar sticking up.
Like 4C I carried mine to the sparky who rattled the pulley of and on in two shakes. Got a better deal than he did as well - Free

Just bought the alternator pulley INA MAKE.
Part number for the INA : 535007210.
Got it form Unity Auto factors- Apparently they one of the distributors of INA for UK £33.
The stamping on the new INA pulley itself is INA F-553099.

Ive seen the tools referred before in the previous posts. Since Iam not doing any other car repairs apart from mine,

1.Please some one advice is this the correct tool.
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Alternator...3D311491302667

2. Which direction to remove the pulley (is it anti clock wise at the end of the tool using a breaker bar &at the same time counter holding the blackbit on the toolkit with a spanner.

Mine is Volvo XC90 D5 Euro 3. Bosch alternator.

Thank you
Saravan

That pulley is the exact same as the genuine Volvo pulley and you can see INA F-553099 printed on the genuine one.
Genuine is 4 times the price to what I've just paid though.

I bought from Germany for £20 Delivered.

The tool you link to is correct but it wouldn't work on the car for the models in this section as it's too long for the space available if you don't want to remove the alternator.
You may have extra space on your XC90.

For ours, we'd need the SHORTER version which comes in the Sealey SX400 kit.
