I cannot get the radio suppressio relay off for the life of me
Edit, I have the relay removed from the wing now but I cannot get it unplugged from it's electrical half!

Alternatively, use a flat screwdriver on the "back" side of the clip to lever the clip away from the piece of bodywork it's on so the little "hook"/tang on the inside of the clip releases its grip. You may have to do this one side of the clip at a time. Either method should secure the release of the clip, then it's easier to undo the clips on the plug/socket the relay plugs into. I think the new ones come with the clips so you can see better what i mean when your daughter brings it.

Cheers, I've already tried both of those methods, I wonder if it is electrically welded together inside
I am beginning to wonder if the boy who somehow fitted my new belts so that the alternator belt rubbed and frayed to death in its first 50 miles of life has somehow knocked my timing out? Had a new cambelt a couple of years ago and she has been fine ever since

More thinking:
Almost impossible but possible hot starting on lpg when engine was nicely warm. Zero starting on cold petrol engine. Is there a common denominator here that could be suspect that both systems use for starting?

New fuel pump relay fitted and new radio suppression relay fitted
Still a non starter and I am £89.76 worse off! I am very suspicious of the immobiliser, it has been techy these last few weeks, it just immobilised itself when my daughter was standing outside the car Any tips hints on how to reset it, what to do please? Or how to disconnect it? Off out now to buy a gallon of petrol (just to be sure)

Depends which immobiliser part you are referring to. The fairly secure key chip is always immobilised and deactivated when the ignition is turned on and the is chip detected.
This is tied to the fuel ECU and reader module. There have been a number of reports on how tied it is. Some say you can replace the reader module, but my test didn't find that, and seemed to confirm it is tied to the ECU as stated in the Volvo literature. This cannot be bypassed and needs the fuel ECU main chip replaced or the whole unit. if you are lucky you might get away with replacing the aerial and/or keychip and subsequent reprogramming. The alarm unit is a separate system and interrupts the starter motor, this can be bypassed fairly easily with a piece of wire. The alarms can get a bit twitchy in their old age. Disclaimer - still might not be the immobiliser. |

I just put in petrol and meths so ''no fuel'' and ''contaminated fuel'' fairly safely eliminated
I am loathe to spend my time on the crank sensor thingy as the rev counter needle does move up and down I am going to have a go with the flash reader on the ignition setting Wondering if it's a plug but then surely it would fire on 3 and then die, ditto an injector? I will check the distributor tomorrow Happy days!

Sorry this a a short reply on my phone.
Before spending any more money you probably want to narrow it down to definitely fuel or definitely ignition with some basic testing. Bits of accessory belt flying about have been known to knock the timing belt out. |

Thanks for your help everybody!
Decision made! I could stay at home tomorrow and order/replace the crank sensor lead thingy, I could replace the fuel filter and find myself a day's wages short at the end of the day plus parts renewed for nothing I am phoning the RAC now and getting a relay into Volvos main dealer Reading tomorrow Bank of Mum & Dad are putting money into my account to help a bit and I know the lovely man in my life will so want to help but I am very independent and never take money from him but if I am desperate maybe I will borrow for a first time. I lent my daughter the money for a washing machine last week so when she returns that I'll repay Bank of Mum and Dad! Thank you all for all your help! If I didn't have to get to work I could sit at home eliminating a couple of things a day but it's costing me wages and parts at this rate and as said it could be so many things, immobiliser, fuel pump (perhaps the noise I hear comes from starter motor), who knows I have used my flash reader on the OBD2 port again tonight and it comes up with zero codes on the ignition or the fuel side I will let you all know what it is when I know. Thank you!
