It has now been a month since the accident and the car's still at the repairers. I have had various promises of imminent completion but so far each time there have been reasons for further delay.

The latest came yesterday when, again, I was expecting a call to say the car's ready. Instead, I learned that the repairers discovered that the handle / camera unit (I presume for the 360' camera function) is not part of the standard tail gate part and needs to be ordered separately. Unfortunately Volvo are out of stock of the part required; it's on back order with no date for when the part will become available.

So it's looking increasingly like it will be weeks if not months more to wait before I get my car back. So frustrated about it. I will certainly be avoiding Stagecoach buses for the foreseeable future!
Sorry to hear this, incredible it takes so long to repair the car. To be fair, there have been so many instances of dealers waiting for parts for warranty repairs on the forum over the last few months, Volvo do appear to have a parts sourcing and supply problem.

Smile Good news!

I got my car back today!

As of Monday, the repair was delayed by not having the necessary handle part for the rear tailgate camera.

The part in question is still on order, with a provisional date of end of August. However, as an interim measure, the repairers have fitted the part, which is slightly damaged, from the old tailgate. To be honest, the damage is barely noticeable, and the 360' camera is fully functional.

When the new part does come in, they'll swap it over which will be a quick job I'm told.

As for the rest of the repair - new tailgate and bumper - I couldn't be more impressed. Stewart Roden Motors near Edinburgh have done a great job. You really couldn't tell it had ever happened. The colour match is as perfect as I could have hoped for; I certainly can't see any difference.

The main dealership in Edinburgh will take the car in for a day in a couple of weeks time to reapply the Supaguard I had when I initially bought the car, and they'll also fit a new rear number plate to match the one at the front - i.e. with the matching dealership logo.

I took the car out for a decent 50min spin up the motorway this evening, and everything seems to be working as it should - BLIS etc all fine. I haven't tried the rear reversing warning when there's traffic or pedestrians crossing, and the stop/start didn't operate which I think is probably because it has been sitting idle for almost six weeks. The run up the motorway will hopefully refresh the battery a little which should help.

Otherwise, all good and happy chap.

Good news!

When you get your numberplate swapped, keep the one you've got now as a spare. At some point you or subsequent owners might want it for a trailer or rear bicycle carrier, caravan, that kind of thing.
