"and what does the cam belt have to do with its a interference engine or not?......."i suppose in kamakazis case, considering his bizzare fetish for fitting cam belts from completely different engines that when the inevitable does happen, its cheaper for him if he only has to fit yet another incorrect belt than rebuld his engine (no doubt using ford pinto valves headgasket etc) makes sense if you think about it, (and here was us thinking he was total raving fruit cake with a appetite for crack cocaine)

at least someone was on the right track & got the connection with banger racing !
as the supply of granada's runs out (when did you last see a mk2 grannie on the road ?) we now use volvos with some sucsess, but due to the lack of metal work compaired with a grannie they tend to break the belts. i guessed 2.1 didnt have valve contact & the others did as i took the head off a 2.3 & saw the damage it had done ! the 2.1 i have has a broken crank drive sproket due to the back of a volvo ! but i had fitted ford belts to it to get it out to race again thanks for the help, at least we got there in the end ! http://mysite.freeserve.com/wellbent/index.htm. is an excellent site for any one interested in bangers or if you want see what we do to volvo's ! some excellent links to other web sites to ! WARNING some of the images you may find disturbing to volvo owners !

Thank you for the warning - I am still slightly traumatised though.

i have to concure; big word this time of night!; what the h**l are you doing fitting a pinto belt into a volvo? got a free supply?
just been out to my b230 rebuild and took belt off, made sure No1 had a valve fully open; VX high lift cam on this engine; turned engine over and piston misses valve!!! i think you will find most b series "valve friendly" or non-interference. this is where i get shot down in flames! ADVICE. just change the dam thing for a genuine volvo one as recommended. john |

There are several different 2.3l engines fitted to 200 series cars. Most are non-interference, but some are interference. You have not told us which engine it was with the bent valves, merely its swept volume. Was it a B23E or a B230A or B230K or B230F or...?
You have not responded to the comments where people get far more than the recommended service life out of Volvo belts. You have not answered the comments that suggest there may have been some reason for the premature failure of the belt. In short you have had some bad luck and are using that to try and convince the rest of us that you know better than the Volvo engineers who designed the engine. Your experiences do not correspond with most peoples, so it would pay you to find out why this is. |

Hmm....I know what you mean. I must admit to having found it oddly amusing at times though. I am rather bemused as to why anyone would actualy want to crash into other cars ruining their own car in the process. Strange.
