being an ambulance 11mpg sounds right! but if you havent reset the fuel computer since you got it , it will take years to get the average up to what YOU are doing . so reset average fuel consumption AND the average speed and start again with your particular driving style .

Had an 07 V70 D5 manual (185) that would routinely do 42 - 43mpg on motorway runs at 75 - 80, push it over 80 and it would drop rapidly to 35 - 38mpg.
Now running an 08 V50 D5 Geartronic & at a steady 70 on the motorway I have had up to 47mpg but usually sit around 75 at which I get about 42mpg, at 80+ it drops rapidly to mid 30's - the Geartronic gearbox really hits the MPG. Not really answering the intial question but for interest my wife ran a 2.0D C30 powershift for a while, nice car but I struggled to get that to do 40mpg. All the above are based in fill up calculations rather than on board computer readings. |

S60 2.4D EuIV 6 speed-manual with 86K running on 16" alloys @36psi returned ~61MPG on a 418 motorway miles round trip at a steady 60mph (brim-2-brim was 30.9litres).
(One day I intend to try this trip at the "unofficial motorway limit" and compare MPG rates.......my suspicion is that it will be mid 40 MPG). |

S60 D5 Euro 3
Hi, My S60 D5 163 BHP Euro 3 (2005) manual bought last year gives 43 to 44 MPG with no motorway use and mainly local Cornish roads. I specifically bought the Euro 3 to avoid DPF nonsense and I think the car is good. My V70 2.5T auto only gives 22 to 24.5 MPG in similar driving. I use Asda diesel but add Millers Ecomax additive and that makes it run much better and improves MPG. If bought in bulk, it only adds 1p per litre. If I do a proper motorway run the D5 will creep up to 49 to 51 MPG depending on how heavy my foot is!
