I have been in a dispute with a garage twice so I know how it feels to have a broken car due to someone else's fault. Both times it was when I bought a car that developed serious faults just after the date of sale and and both times I won a full refund. The OP will need to prove the map was the cause of the problem without any doubt to be entitled to a refund and the cost of any repairs. So far he hasn't proven this. He has just gone out and joined this forum and in his first post he has given us half a story blaming Shark for damaging his car. This is not the first time I have seen threads like this and it won't be the las. The OP would be better getting his car fixed and then getting an independent report if he wants to make a claim against Shark. He is not doing his claim any good shouting off on here but he is leaving himself open for a claim from Shark over his unproven claims. No I do not work for Shark but so far I don't think they have done anything wrong. Last edited by kenny; Dec 22nd, 2015 at 20:09. |

Attached is todays invoice. Engine light still on and it hasn't really changed much but they've told me to drive it over the Christmas period and see how it is. They've said that the next step is a new gearbox, not sure if the car is worth enough for a new gearbox so it may be a write-off.

Well, only every 37,500 miles is the interval (3 x 12,500 mile services) specified by Volvo, as it's a mileage only item.
Also, non-genuine filters would no doubt need far more attention. Quote:
Am I the only one who thinks that you're getting your pants pulled down by whichever franchise you're taking it to? "Yes sir, a code read, regen and transmission fluid replacement - that'll be £750" ECM-0089 is a fault flagged to say the fuel pressure requested differed from the fuel pressure received. Faff all (really) to do with the DPF, ECM Software or Gearbox. What it is related to is, I quote: "Loose connections, contact resistance or oxidation in the terminals Open-circuit in the power supply Open-circuit in the signal cable Short-circuit to ground or supply voltage in the signal cable Blocked fuel lines. Damaged fuel pressure control valve. " So, when was the fuel filter last replaced, was it a volvo item and why the bejesus wasn't a £40 filter replaced before anyone suggested spending over a grand on red herrings? I don't see how wherever you've taken it have correctly followed Fault Trace if they've ignored everything on VIDA (i.e. ruled out fuel filter blockage by replacing it!)? |

Forgive me if i misunderstood your comment, but are you saying you actually noticed the issue before you got the remap?

I would be expecting they should be doing a road test collating live data, ie injector duty cycle, turbo boost, engine rpm holding onto certain gears, O2 etc to build up a picture creating a mark point to understand at what point do the issues arise. Once you have a clear picture you can focus on a certain area. finger in the air guess would be along the lines of contamination of the clutch from say a leaking seal ? |

So the engine light being on for a fuel pressure problem (seemingly your complaint, although we haven't received one yet) that was present without the remap now turns into a potential new gearbox?!

Logic? Better map = increased fuel demand = all of a sudden the ECM noticing that there's a difference in demanded fuel > supplied. The problem may have come to light because of the new Map, but it doesn't mean the problem is because of the new Map, as that (as prev mentioned) would be post hoc ergo propter hoc. So damn simple to change the fuel filter, and it may well end up a very expensive lesson for the OP. |

No, the issues arose on the first drive home from Shark after it had been mapped. I contacted them when it was clear that the car wasn't "adapting" but that there was an obvious problem.

There was no engine light until it had been mapped, but Shark should know this as you took it for numerous short and aggressive drives
