Having owned Volvos continuously since 1984, and 7 series cars from 1997 to 2016, might my V70 be considered an honorary 745 for the day, please?

As to venue; the 3 series sub-group arranged an excellent gathering at the Nottingham Heritage Transport Museum at Ruddington a year or two ago - a nice central and accessible location. I think James Bottrill was the 'brains' behind that one ...

Another possible venue in the East Midlands may be the Attenborough Nature Reserve, just outside Nottingham. There is a large car park (voluntary donation (£1.50(?))), and a very nice cafe, all in very pleasant surroundings.

I am afraid that while there are many more similar potential venues up and down the country, our friends who live in the remoter areas such as Cornwall or Cumbria will inevitably need to travel further than those of us living in the urban conurbations.

Regards, John.

Kings Lynn was only mentioned as a potential location Jon, nothing set in stone about it and to be honest, wasn't aware of your Lincs base location so took a random guess of Spalding (it's in Lincs ) and knowing it's about 30 miles from KL used that as somewhere to base my suggestion of Kings Lynn on.

Looking at the map i see the Lincolnshire Wolds are much further, almost into the border area with Yorkshire.
No worries Dave, I know KL was only mentioned as a possible - KL is/used to be a nice town, especially the old part near the Customs House. Spalding nooo, I live in the posh part of Lincolnshire near the Georgian town of Louth - beloved of John Betjeman.

J.

N.B I should add that for me, a nice drive to a meet has to be a given.

I may have missed something here John but i was under the impression it would be regional more than national?
Nothing to stop those from Cornwall and Cumbria attending of course but if i have got it right (East Anglia as i've always understood it is Essex, Suffolk, Norfolk, Cambridgeshire and Lincolnshire) then Nottingham would be out of that area and certainly a long way for those in Essex to come.

Sorry, 'Laird Scooby', it was I who missed the 'regional' context! The post referencing* Carlisle must have confused me! Having said that, the A14 has vastly improved communications between the EM and EA in recent years ...

Spalding was literally just a random guess, i've been to Louth a few times, maybe only 2 or 3 and while what little i saw of the town was nice, the bit i was going to was rubbish - literally! I went to the landfill site to service/repair a generator that runs on landfill gas so as you can see, it really was rubbish!

In fact, while i was there once, they had a delivery of manure for using for compost so a harsher description could apply as well!

I think the emphasis would have to be on a nice drive, not just a means of getting there if it was a lengthy one. That also usually includes good weather, bad weather driving along what are nice A roads in the summer can be horrible!

No worries, I think Carlisle can be confusing John - it confused me too!

Dave,

I think we need a few more contributors*(more interested - for the meet idea), quite a few viewers but only a hardcore of contributors !

J.

*not sure a separate thread will do the trick either.

I get your point Jon - on the upside it means we can look at smaller venues for the meet with less parking rather than having to find a venue big enough to accommodate a dozen Volvos and their owners/drivers possibly with partners along for the social side or going to the meet on the way to somewhere else.
