It's a driver aid but not a driver replacement. I wouldn't spec it if I was buying a car from new. At the same time I do miss it when driving another car without it, so maybe I am contradicting myself and I really would pay for it.

Right, I've changed my mind now. I would buy it if specing a new car, but only to get the adaptive cruise that comes with the driver support pack.

Has anyone been brave enough to try out City Safety and pedestrian detection on anything other than a carboard box or inflatible dummy?
Sort of...Both in XC and V60 - approach barrier and generally I set off as its raising knowing I can get under - however on each car City Safety cut in.So yes it detects even barriers.

Hi,

After all of this... I have added it to my car anyway, as I wanted the adaptive cruise

As you probably noticed we all have a different perspective on things but most of us agree that the XC60 is a pretty decent choice compared to rivals.

I'm sure you will be pleased when you get it, keep in touch with progress!

Hi

I love the XC60 (good job just spent north of 40K on one!)

The thing I like best is that you dont see hundreds of them everywhere you go in the UK (unlike X5/X3 and Q5 - which are two a Penny)

I've been really impressed by BLIS is the increased spacial awareness it gives you of vehicles around you.For example you're aware of a vehicle behind moving closer in the out side lane but then as it gets nearer it disappears from your mirrors the BLIS light comes on shortly after reminding you and confirming they're still there.

I think that is the best explanation i have seen on here as to the correct use of BLIS !

Yes, I completely agree, it's a fantastic and eloquent explanation of BLIS , especially as I actually wrote it in reply 5 !

I also find it useful coming off roandabouts one dual carriageways where I accelerate hard, its nice to know if the car in the left lane is trying to keep pace with me or is slipping behind , without having to glance across.

I think I took it in large part because, at the time, they were combining it with the Family Pack! (ie get BLIS and the FP was free).

Not going to repeat what others have said, but I think it's a pretty useful piece of kit for awareness etc. but you obviously can't become complacent because of it.

Personally, I think Volvo would be better off including these enhancements as standard (appreciate that'd get passed on). Surely safety should fall into the "need" rather than "optional" category? Just a thought.
