This will allow everyone to chip in and comment. I very much doubt you'll go wrong with the RST brand. I have the tracktech evo leather trousers, tracktech evo textile jacket and Alpinestar SMX6 boots. I bought RST have seen the spec, price etc and went in store to see it for myself, try it on etc and since have been impressed with RST products.

All of the above, new cost me;

Trousers : £150 (J&S)
Jacket : £134 (Sportbike Shop)
Boots : £129 (All Biker Wear IIRC, some big bike shop in Birmingham)
Shoei NXR : £249 (Sportsbike shop)
Will only be doing fair weather riding to start. I don't have a budget as such- i was going to do what I did when we started hill walking- buy good stuff second hand off eBay and then replace with new over time.

But I will buy a new helmet. https://sharp.dft.gov.uk/testsratings/nitro-aikido

If you time it right then Aldi do surprisingly good kit for a very reasonable price.
I bought one of their leather jackets with internal armour and its been very good indeed for fair weather blasts on the sports bike.
When you get into serious long range touring then it really does pay dividends to get the high end quality stuff though, but for sunday rides the Aldi stuff is great.

What bike would you guys suggest as a first "big bike"? Once I pass I am pretty much set on a Honda hornet- looks like a good balance of everything. I would love a Honda shadow 750 but maybe a bit too heavy for a first bike? Also the hornets are a lot more reasonable priced.

A Moto Guzzi V7. Light, easy to ride, and a lot of fun.

Done my cbt and now have a Yamaha ybr125 😆 And it's awesome! Granted not the fastest thing - touched 65 on the slope - but for learning and getting experience it's perfect 👍

Suzuki SV650. Loved mine and is a perfect first big bike. Loads to choose from, neat handling, good looks, choice of naked/half faired/fully faired to suit styling tastes, plenty of power form the V Twin and a good seat height. Mine was a second gen model and I'd go for one again any day. Manufactured between 2003 and 2016 they still look modern but can be had for peanuts. Extra points go if you can get one in Burnt Orange because that was the colour of mine

I have been a biker for about 6 years now. My local dealer is Kawasaki and I have always got on well and been happy with them. So, I am on my third Kawasaki, a Versys 1000.

I can't believe I haven't done this years ago!!

The problem I have is I have a list as long as my arm as to what bike I want 😆

Would a Honda vfr 800 be too big a jump?

Been a biker now for over 10 yrs, on my 4th bike now a CBR100XX Blackbird which I have now owned for just over 2 yrs.

Superb all round bike from both a performance and practicality angle. Bike is my primary mode of transport doing 500 miles or so a week.

S60 spends most of it`s time on drive and get`s used at weekends for domestic duties and a yearly jolly up to the Scottish Highlands.
