Today I:
Cleaned the ICSV: Was overdue a clean, didn't look too cruddy but went pop once the carb cleaner was in there. Should fix the surge when AC is on and seems to be idling much happier (and a little lower, now at 650 when warm and 850 with AC on, seems right?).

Changed the fuel filter. Was last changed in 2009 and had some suspect petrol in just before christmas so was overdue a change.

Now just to sort out the poor cold starts. Currently suspecting the Halfords battery; I've heard (and experienced) so many stories of Halfords batteries that I think I just want it gone anyway.

Have you considered the FPR for your cold starts?

I had a thread up a little while ago as that was what I had thought.
Concensus seemed to be that FPR failure would give good, aggressive cold starts, but poor warm starts. Warm start is instantaneous. I only seem to have problems with cold starts.
Only other thing I thought was maybe a temperature sender or MAF iffyness.
Cleaned the throttle body out while doing ICV and it was nice and clean, so not that.

I had issues with cold starts replaced the FPR and that cured it for me.

Not exactly what I've done, but what I'm planning.... request for quotes sent to local Volvo indie for the following

> - Creak from o/s/r suspension, bush/spring? "Comfort" springs were replaced last year so maybe one of them is duff? I still have the original springs if needed.

> - Creak from n/s occasionally when setting off (almost definitely from sticking rear caliper as handbrake cable sometimes seems a bit loose. WD40 spray behind the caliper nut usually sorts this issue?)

> - Gearbox fluid change (routine - never been done?)

> - Injector / tank clean (e.g. Redex, FuelSet or something similar?)

> - HID/Xenon headlamps to fit (have spares)

> - Headlamps wiper/spray not working both sides (have spares)

> - o/s/f chrome door handle broken (have spares)

> - o/s/f indicator housing steamed up, unit needs to be removed & resealed (silicone?)

Most of that will be really easy but frankly that also means it'll be cheap, and I'd rather just get it scrubbed off the "to do" list.

Otherwise I'll be planning a trip to see our favourite feline

Its not being broken. Car runs spot on and cant fault it. Will be for sale shortly after a good valet and a pair of new front top mounts.

If I caught the postman doing it, I would for sure give him a small dent

Ended up getting another replacement bonnet, which was fitted for me FOC by the breakers yard, in exchange for my old bonnet (I kept my egg crate grille)

So, this afternoon has been spent cleaning the car, especially the new bonnet, which took a couple of coats of G3, followed by G10 and a black top hand glaze (Farecla products)

Changed the bolt that holds down the coil pack. Mine had a much longer bolt with 3 spring washers to pack it out that some garage had fitted sometime in the past having lost the original bolt. Replaced with a flanged head M6 20mm bolt as per OEM spec. Don't want spring washers anywhere near my spark plug holes.

Bought a Varta Silver Top E44 960 battery for it for £61.20 delivered. Bargain price, even if it isn't the Halfords battery causing poor starting at least it should give me years of trouble free power. Before Skyship gets in, its a decent, large, well reviewed supplier with a decent turnover. Would doubt it has sat on a shelf. The Silver top Varta are identical to the Bosch S5 series, so an even better price.

If anyone is interested, I ordered from here. You can get 10% off by downloading their android/ios app and sending them an email.
