Hi Darryl
Your original post prompted me to look again at why I didn't choose the Jeep as it was on my list of cars to consider when I was looking for 4X4. This is from What Car...... Quote:
It's good to hear your experience was great and as I haven't actually owned one I would not post on the Jeep forum running it down. I don't think you've ever owned an XC class Volvo have you? I still think the XC90 is a fantastic car to own, has handled all the off road stuff I've asked of it and just so much fun to drive I can never get enough of it. All the best. Roy

Roy, as ever the problem with quoting the motoring press is that quite often they print things that, as an owner, you do not believe to be true in the real world. How does this sit with you? http://archive.carkeys.co.uk/road_test/volvo/8327.asp By the way, on my S60 D5 185, i could easily post a photo of the average fuel consumption showing 76mpg but people would know that i was not being realistic. The XC90 is a half decent car for what it purports to be but that is all it is, nothing special. Another happy forum owner? http://www.volvoforums.org.uk/showth...050#post755050 Darryl |

As to the third row of seats, I've had my 6'2" 18 st son in law and my 5'11" daughter sitting in them and they said it was a bit tight but OK. So I guess that's down to individual perception. As to the running boards causing muddy trouser bottoms that's something that's never happened in my experience. They stop carpark dinges and let me reach the roof when I'm washing it as well, so I like them. They do reduce ground clearance a bit off road though which is the only negative I can think of. He's right about the parking brake being horrible at first, but wrong in that you won't get used to it. I use it without a second thought now. Still the review was only based on a short one off outing I think, so as a personal first experience and not from an owners point of view OK. You should post a 76 mpg ave. photo. It's just a bit of fun and no one will think that's to be expected all the time. It could encourage the more heavy footed to think bit more about how to save fuel though. I'd like to see it personally. If only to go WOW. As to the Subaru, some people say they are great and some say they are horrible and unreliable, but I've never owned one so I have no idea. As to Ian's XC90 we all know he loves it and has great fun with it. That I do understand.http://www.volvoforums.org.uk/showthread.php?p=841525 All the best. Roy

I was just looking at the Buggati Veyron web site. (well I can dream can't I?) and I see the Haldax clutch on that transmits 4,200Nm to the rear on take off! Gulp. 0 to 100Km in 2.5 sec and brake to 0 again in 2.3 sec. I didn't look at mpg. as who gives a s*** with that kind of performance.

I think that torque figure may just cause some damage to my S60 D5's DMF! I agree re the fuel consumption, i would love to have that sat in my garage and the associated cash re purchase and running costs. Dream on! Darryl |

Yes, it says it has to use specially made tyres. So they're going to be a four figure sum for each one!

Wasn't it so that at near top speed the set of tyres only last 50 or so miles?
Then again if you can afford one, the tyre cost is peanuts....

Haldex Oil Pump & Angle Gear Replacement
We have a 2006 185bhp D5 manual and had been noticing quite a bit of wheelspin when pulling out of junctions in the wet.
The car went back to the Dealer and they 'plugged it in' and concluded that as there were no fault codes then it was all OK. I was not happy with this and armed with a little knowledge from this thread (!!!), wrote a stroppy letter to them suggesting they check out the haldex system and splined sleeve. Funnily enough, the dealer has just phoned to say that they are making a warranty claim for a new haldex oil pump and a new angle gear bearing (or something - wifey took the message). My question is, does this mean that by replacing the angle gear it will, by default, have received a new 'splined sleeve' or are the two parts not related? Cheers |
