Please remember my car is an auto so getting true figures for it is hard. Adam has already stated awhile back that upto 100 BHP can be lost through an auto box. So if you believe that my car is pushing around 290-300bhp.....so maybe not all that bad really. I can easly out drag Civic Type R's with 200bhp and Honda S2000's as well as most BMW's including 330's. So I guess not much can be wrong with my car.

Regards

Iain

I have seen many auto 850s with 19T turbos produce at least 60 bhp more at the wheels than Iain's. One even had over 250 bhp at the wheels even though it was well down on compression due to wear and tear.

Don't forget mid ranges ! Not just ultimate power here !

If I had 300bhp all the way through the rev range . . . :)

Guessing thats on your RR? And not a third parties?

So if my car is so bad how come 330 BMW's can't keep up?

Believe a 330's figures are:
Power bhp (kW) at RPM: 255(190) / 6600
Torque lb-ft (Nm) at RPM: 221(300) / 2500

What you really want is 300 lb.ft all the way through the rev range, not 300 bhp all the way through. Else your car will feel like a very fast diesel and will have no traction in the low revs!!

A flat torque curve is an ideal characteristic to aim for.

So you'll say the BMW wasn't trying...well he was because he's a friend.

Does this mean my Knackered car is really knackered....hmmmm....NOPE don't think so.

Iain

Indeed it was a manual and that is a fair point, however those figures do still seem on the very low side. Maybe a tranny oil cooler would help and allow a bit more to be gained?

Maybe you do just have to ask for the WHP figure, but that is the point; You have to ask. In my eyes you should ask for the crank estimate not the other way round.
WHP is real, and what counts at the end of the day.

Also you are correct in that no two cars are the same. :)

Later,

Simple - a stock T5 produces the same torque but from 2500-5000 rpm, whereas the BMW only has this torque for a very narrow range. So for most of the rev range, the T5 will have more torque. And a modified T5 will have even more torque!
