We have 3 Volvo's and may well stay with the name. Very scared of later models that limit DIY work but maybe my limited knowledge is the biggest factor for now.

One reason for sticking to Volvo is this Forum and the affordability of a 2nd hand Volvos in New Zealand where the "Word Is" they are expensive to maintain.

Of course Mercs and Jags are no cheaper but they seem to hold their value more - hence we buy Volvo.

We get parts from the UK at half the price they are available in NZ or Aust and maybe just as quick.

Nice to drive a car that is not "Common". In NZ anyway. We can wave to Volo drivers. Try this with other brands and you would end up with a limp rist.

Looked at the new Citroen DS5 at the weekend and found it very impressive in terms of design flair & quality…made me feel that the instrumentation of the XC60 is now getting getting a bit dated when I got back into it. However the DS5 residuals will be pretty steep and in three years’ time my six year old MY10 XC60 might be worth about the same!….so I’ll keep it a bit longer and perhaps consider the XC60 mkII when it arrives if it's significantly updated.

I had a look at a DS5 before choosing a V60. I think it is a very striking car but I do wonder if you would tire of it over time as it is very much a fashion statement. I also found the drivers seat quite hemmed in, think Star Trek Capt. Kirks chair, which is not to my own liking. I liked the fact that it was different but I don't know if I could have lived with it.

I wonder a little if it will also attract the boys in blue and car scratchers as it really does stand out from the crowd. A brave effort though.

Excuse my ignorance (luckily most people do) - but what is a DS5?

It is their sexy/sporty version of a Citroen C5, a family sized car. Google it, it is a very striking car.

Seems the S40/V50door seals are vulnerable to 'bending' as you get in and out of the car, when parked in a garage. As you slide in or out with the limited access if you can only open the door part way, your backside rubs against the door seal, and bends/pulls at it, eventually leading to failure along the 'thin' section. Volvo seem to know about this, replaced ours without a murmer under warranty. Partial cure is to get into the car 'Facing' the vehicle and swivel round into the seat when in a garage, that way you can pull yourself away from the seal.
