Out of the blue I got a call from the dealer today also. Same as you, my T8 XC60 will be with the dealer first week in April. They also said it had been built in Europe not China. I really don’t understand how Volvo can give out so many conflicting messages

When did you order the car?

Dealer told me the same thing about where it was built.
Will believe the delivery date only when it arrives in the dealers forecourt.

Default when asked to pay ?

Ive also been waiting for a T8 XC60 ordered mid sept with latest delivery end April (dealer said this was on a train from china in February).

I received email today saying invoice will be received shortly and I will have 7 days to pay. How far in advance did people receive this email ahead of their actual invoice and subsequent delivery of car ?

Also when are people advised of their number plate ? is this by their dealer or volvo ?

Did you order online or via a dealer and if through a dealer did you agree that they could claim an 'assistance' fee?

Also, are you trading in?

It's not clear to me how the final paperwork is handled with both the dealer and Volvo UK seemingly involved.

EDIT:
And did you agree a loyalty discount that was shown on your order paperwork?

EDIT 2:
I've just looked at my order paperwork for the first time in 6 months. It refers to a Partial Deposit (presumably the £500 at time of order) and an 'option' to pay a further Deposit 7 days before pickup (why?). It then goes on to say that an Invoice will subsequently be sent for the outstanding amount.

I Ordered online after visiting a dealer. I paid £500 at time of order to Volvo and dealer said i would receive a £2000 deposit contribution . He also included mudflaps and Tyre/alloy wheel protection for 3 yrs (i imagine this is due to a loyalty offering as bought xc40 previously but it was not called that) which was documented in an email to me. I have no trade in.

like you I have just read the small print and seen the 7 days payment before delivery paragraph. Have you had a similar request as we ordered the same car a couple of days apart ?

The email also included a link to activate the 7 day insurance offer, but cannot action this as not know delivery date (or number plate)... why isnt this sent out with request for final payment when more relevant

The strange thing is that although we ordered just days apart, my car isn't due to be built in China until the beginning of April with delivery anticipated end June so I haven't received anything yet. How we can have such divergent delivery dates is beyond me.

With previous purchases (Lexus and Volvo) is was all very simple. The dealer arranged everything including transfer of personal number plate, etc, and I just pitched up and paid the oustanding balance to the dealer's bank account after the trade-in value had been deducted.

But this time, if I decide to trade in, you'd think the dealer would have to tell Volvo to deduct that from the final invoice. However, as I understand it, it's the dealer 'buying' my trade-in, not Volvo, so why would Volvo deduct its value from their invoice? I need to speak to the dealer to get a clear view on this.

Meanwhile, I know someone who bought a new XC90 a few months ago so I'll ask him what the process was.

The difference in delivery dates could be due to when your dealer actually submitted the order to Volvo after you had been into them or the amount of time it took Volvo to actually process the order once it was submitted to them.
I believe some dealerships only get a set number of car order slots in a set time period and if your dealer had already run out, your order may have only gone through when the next number of available slots were allocated to them.

I'm assuming that Volvo have changed how the conduct new car sales since I bought mine in June 2022 as my purchase was nice and easy as you described with other manufacturer purchases you have had, my dealership sorted private plate transfer, all finance & car payment stuff and even collected us from the local train station, all we did was pitch up, pay the finance deposit, sign some paperwork and off we went, it was a super smooth operation.

My order was made online direct with volvo uk after returning from the dealer and having a test drive in the morning.

Agree process was so simple when ordered my XC40 in 2018.

I asked Volvo on Tuesday to increase my loan amount by £500 so a nice round number over 48 months .. heard today that volvo finance could do this but only over 36 months.... just emailed back to leave the amount unchanged, pointing out the dealer said the loan could be adjusted up to the deposit being paid.. If i'd done the calculations last September been no problem but rather difficult on their 'sliding ruler' to get exact amount of loan required on website.
