[QUOTE=Tannaton;2938755]I too find the Juke and the Quashquaiyy or whatever it is to be utter abominations, however from the sales figures clearly Nissan got it right. And this is the thing - the buying public does not behave like it used to, brand loyalty is much reduced, it's all about today.

Another thing I find curious is if I was going to spend say £500 on a watch I would look at a renowned watch manufacturer like Seiko - I wouldn't buy one from a fashion brand like DKNY or MK who have zero history in quality timepieces - yet a lot of people do?[/QUOTE

Agreed. As a watch buff of some 50+ years, a designer watch is , in many cases , junk inside .

Yep, I bought My Orange Seiko Monster 19 years ago, have worn it everyday and in many respects have been careless with it wearing it even when working on the car. .
It's been absolutely faultless .

Consumerism….. Buy it, Use it, Bin it, Buy Another. The consumerism dream is here. I look after my motors but I know plenty who don’t. They’ll batter the crap out of a motor that costs tens of thousands of pounds without a second thought. They’ll burst into tears if they scratch the screen on a £250 TV or breaks their favorite tea cup. Nowt queerer than folk.

I've got three Kinetics - a gold and blue one which my parents bought for me for my 30th when they were on holiday in Dubai, I've since bought another and a Titanium Kinetic. They're lovely, but I don't wear a watch these days, haven't done for about 7 years, just no need.

If also got a few stainless steel digital watches, originals.

Sekonda...everytime. I've only needed to buy two in the last 45 years. The first had to be replaced only because someone dropped a car battery on it. It had been working perfectly for over 26 years until then.

Hi I am new on here and have joined to see if anyone has any information or can shed any light on how my XC90 superheated and burnt away the interior along the central part of the car where the battery is situated and the floor on driver and passenger side - it was a write off, there was a lot of noxious smoke, fire brigade had to attend. It happened while charging overnight on our driveway. This happened almost exactly a year ago and I handed it over to Volvo to investigate but the long promised report has never materialised. Has anyone encountered anything similar? I found one incident in UK a few years back but reports suggested that this turned out to be something unconnected to car safety. Is this a regular but unreported phenomenon / a known issue? It is very worrying to me as a Volvo owner. (The written off model was 2019 T8 I think, 2 months out of warranty)

This did make me chuckle, however this is moredown to the cruise control systems and autonomity which isnt specific to electric vehicles. Many newer vehicles with adaptive cruise control, emergency braking etc can all fail or have errors like this. I remember my V40 randomly emergency braking when there was nothing there a few times. If a sensor is playing up all sorts of errors can occur.

All these electronic safety systems are common place in new cars. And with more and more systems in place, it is more likely something will fail. It would be good to see some research into the number of accidents caused by people (not paying attention, drink driving, dangerous driving, old people pressing the wrong pedal etc) versus computer controlled systems (like this example, and i am sure there have been many more in the past with ICE cars and cruis control systems).
