Long list of things I should have done but the kettle is boiling and I'm so easily called away.

I did at least install a junkyard alarm module last week, no more orange triangle. Only cost $10 and two nimh batteries that equaled 7.4v

Got the batteries from a phone store, very different from the volvo battery but as long as the voltage is correct. Remote mounted the batteries to prevent damage to the board again.

Busy weekend ahead of me with servicing and cleaning vehicles. Just a 5k oil change on the S60 but then it needs a once over on fluid checks and tyre pressures etc followed by a wash and spruce up inside and out ready for our 700+ mile trip up to the Scottish Highlands next Saturday. The S60 is a superb car for long trips, from a comfort perspective it has to be on par with the Chrysler Voyager we had a few yrs back

When I have finished that I move onto my daily workhorse the CBR1100 that needs new pads, oil change and air filter removal to be cleaned and refitted. To finish off that it also needs a good clean after this weeks very wet and mucky commuting trips....

1) Learned that the side windshield moldings for P2's are discontinued items.

2) Emptied the P/S reservoir (300 ml) with my homemade extractor.
'Twas browner-than-expected. It looked clear on the rag.
Used Pentosin CHF-11S.
Considering a pump out vs. repeated D&F's.

My handbrake was near useless so I have replaced the shoes on both sides with Volvo parts and re-adjusted (without the after-market adjusters)and now all is well. While under there, I noticed the rear exhaust box I replaced not 3 years ago has a hole in it ALREADY! I will bung it up for just now, but it is a case of buy cheap buy twice.

Just did an oil and filter change today and whilst I was under it trying to figure out what is causing the rattle that comes from the rear suspension as we drive over uneven road surfaces. I thought it might have been the handbrake shoes rattling around but gently applying the brake whilst driving along makes no difference. Will need to jack the back up for a more thorough investigation.

Replaced my CAF @ 30K-a Rumanian Volvo one by Behr-with a Corteco (Germany) CC1060 which exhibited slightly inferior quality.

Had the same type of rattle on my XC70, turned out to be a loose heat deflector above the rear silencer caused by corroded fixings. Bolted it through into the spare wheel well !!!!

As just mentioned, "...corroded fixings. Bolted it through into the spare wheel well !!!!"

Shame on Volvo. Little pieces of stud welded to the car's underside! How in Heaven are people supposed to fix them WHEN they crumble away?
It's not a question of IF.

I had the thought of somehow affixing elevator bolts (wide, flat headed-similar to a carriage bolt) to the car's underside BUT WITH WHAT?

I doubt the best epoxies would last long so drilling through could be the only way.

Has Volvo (or any other car maker who uses this deficient method) ever commented? Surely boring holes through our beloved Volvos does not jibe with their "long life / severe snow service" image.

Maddening it is.
