Default Blower seems weak

Blower on full blast only blows a little air to the screen. Seems a bit crap compared to the hurricane I've previously had on other cars. Is this some kind of fault or is this how they are. Greatful of your opinions.

a) the blowers are not fantastically powerful to the screen
b) does your car have a pollen filter? If so it might be worth checking it in case it's soaked and/or clogged.

Cheers

+1 the pollen filter o my S80 was quite dirty and when I replaced it,it was like Hurricane Andrew had been let loose in the cabin! Most people aren't even aware of these in cars so they get neglected.

How do you know if it has a pollen filter? Is my 96' 850 likely to have one?

If you have one then it's under a plastic flap in the scuttle panel Paul (4 torx bolts to access it if I remember right). You can add one if you do not have one, though you also need to buy a frame for it too.

Simon, as it happens I don't actually have one in my car, and so as you say I need the frame and a filter element. How much would a frame and filter cost me from FRF?

I suffer badly from hayfever, so this would be a great ugrade to have!

Cheers

My wifes car has a pretty feeble demist as well. Would this be the same on a 99 c70? Also which side of the scuttle area is it on a UK car?

Yes, AFAIK. It's on the passenger side.

Very good post as I definitely need to sort my pollen filter out.

Can anyone recommend a good online company for Volvo spares. I know of the usual suspects but I want to find someone who supplies either oem or as close as possible.

Sorry to divert even more from OP but as I have been asked to answer:

To add a pollen filter to a 850 series this is the page from the accessory catalogue:

All prices can change from time to time for reasons out of any dealers control but our current price (on 14/12/2012) for the Pollen Filter Element is £17.98 including VAT which is 30% off the retail price.

Our current price for the Pollen Filter Holder is £18.77 including VAT which is 15% off the retail price.

Delivery is extra if required and will be £6.99 for Interlink Next Day delivery. (Delivery will be less if only the pollen filter element is ordered.) The retainer is currently only stocked in Sweden so will take about 2 to 3 days to arrive with us before we can dispatch it to you, but this may also change.

If you have an 850 specifically with ECC and up to 1994, then 3 extra parts would be needed as you can see in the accessory page above. If so then these 3 parts currently come to a total of 4.66 including VAT. Please let us know when ordering so you can also order the relevant extra parts.

(PLEASE NOTE: The multi-filter part number listed in the catalogue has since been expired, only the standard pollen filter element is now available).

If anyone would like to order these items, or of course any thing else for your Volvo, then please call us on either of our parts department telephone lines: 01792 790066 or 01792 784272 and please mention the Volvo Owners Club (or discount code 'C3') when calling so you get these discounted prices!

I hope this helps,

Simon
