Should add that it may be prudent to keep a new 2 litre bottle of Adblue securely in the boot in case you totally run out one day, even though the warning light will annoy you for a ridiculous 1000 miles beforehand and you will undoubtedly need to refuel within that time. Most petrol stations do sell Adblue bottles these days apparently, not that I've noticed as I only occasionally visit one to buy a jerrycan of petrol for a quad bike.
Adblue is not dangerous like petrol and won't burn you if you contact it. If you really want your lawn to grow, you could even spray it sparingly on the grass. It is also sprayed on airstrips in frosty weather, as it is far less corrosive than salt, however in recent years its use has declined due to its nitrification effect when run off into waterways.

An interesting point about Adblue.
Adblue is an urea solution. 32.5% urea plus water. That's all it is. The urea part is probably 45% Nitrogen. Crude protein contains 16%N so the urea part of the Adblue solution is effectively 281% crude protein should one wish to eat it, which is NOT recommended, even in small doses.

however what is even more interesting in this thread was the introduction of the word "tundish" to me.

Tundish:
Used a lot in the chemical industry, a funnel usually made of stainless steel you attach to a hose or other drain pipe, most often used to place under a pipe joint that may be leaking fluid or when breaking the joint for maintenance where there is a risk the line may still contain some fluid (usually hazardous) which can then be caught and drained safely to a container. |

You can purchase plastic or stainless tundish [avoid galvanised] at any motor factors, truck or tractor dealer. Small ones though laboratory supply factors.
Some come with a filter and there is even a brand that specialises in separating water from contaminated diesel. It lets the diesel through the filter but holds the water back to be poured to a waste tank, presumably using another but standard tundish. Plebs might be heard calling this tool a ‘funnel’.

Just updating my experience here...After the critically low AdBlue message disappered , 'Low AdBlue' message appeared after couple of days. It said roughly I have 1300 miles before the car will fail to start.
Today I went to one of the Shell Service station with AdBlue pump.Confirmed with the person at the till and then filled the car. It was roughly half the price of 10 litre Can they were selling for £15. Had to half press the nozzle to get continuous flow. The section was marked for HGV but works fine for the car. It did auto-cut when tank was full. I did spill some on to the body and it was leaving white residue. I did a quick wash and wiped the area clean with tissue. Thanks Quote:

I have to use the small tundish provided by Volvo [and by Ford and Honda and everyone who fit capless fuel fillers to their cars] every time I fill fuel from my home storage to my cars. The filler nozzle is the industrial size that will not fit in the capless orifice, so the tundish is a must. I'm sure that you have noticed it and maybe wondered what it was for? Maybe not even known that you owned a tundish, albeit a small one? Now you know.

I used the volvo supplied black plastic tundish on the petrol V40 loan car I had last month to replenish the fuel I used from my jerry can I have for my garden tools, the tundish opens up the second flap in the filler neck.
I have a good sellection of tundishes in my garage as well. |

Hi all,
I had no idea that this needed to be added! I have 5000miles currently on my S90. I presume there is a warning light I need to look out for? I need to pay more attention to the startup I believe lol. |
