Default Alarm service required

My alarm goes off in the night and is now showing a service is needed. I can lock the car and leave for a while without it going off.
Where would I start to look for the fault please ?

Almost certainly the battery within the Alarm Unit.

Provided the printed circuit board is ok, a new battery can be fitted if your handy.

When mine played up , a replacement battery was of no use due to damage to the circuit board from the old battery leaking.

I bought a good used alarm unit which sorted it.

cheshired5 on here has done a video covering this.

I agree, but would add that if simply replacing the battery, clean the board thoroughly to remove any residue.
I replaced mine as a precaution when I first got the car. There was minimal damage when I took it apart, but no symptoms yet.
Then, 2 years later I had problems. When I took it apart again, the corrosion had continued.
I had to carry out some major board repairs, but this time I washed the board with white vinegar, then clean water to kill off any battery residue.
Obviously, I dried it thoroughly before re-powering it.

Just bought the same battery shown in the video from eBay for £14. Should get it by the weekend 😊

You should look to get this fixed as soon as possible as with mine, when I bought the car, the battery had corroded for a long time and the acid had destroyed the circuit board so a new unit was required.

Mark sent me his board.
The damage was very localised, but very bad. The capacitor I thought was labelled C1 is C19. That part of the board was destroyed. No evidence that there was a component or tracks there. The board itself is eaten through a little.
I took a similar capacitor from a donor board he sent me. I then traced the tracks and soldered links on the reverse of the board to hold the capacitor. These miniature components are terrible to solder by hand.

Pic 1& 2. Damaged board with battery connector removed
Pic 3. Board cleaned with vinegar to prevent further damage.
Pic 4 shows where severe damage was.
Pic 5 shows repair. (Probably worse soldering I've done in a while, but I couldn't manage it without burning myself!).

Well done and we'll rescued.. I assume it now works.

I appreciate just now much effort went into resurrecting this module.

In the past I was an electronics engineer, but these days would not have attempted this!

Well done again!
