Default Navigation Activation Code Needed

I bought a set of unused 2013 navigation disks from Ebay for my 2011 V60 SE Lux. (The original owner hadn't registered for free map upgrades). I went on the Volvo map site to get my activation code, but when I entered my VIN number, the product I bought wasn't listed. Having contacted them, they explained that that's because I didn't get the disks from them.

So can anyone tell me how to get a valid activation code?

I think that they have given you the answer that you will also get from here

You might try this guy http://www.satnav-update.com I have use him in the past and found him very helpful - you may need to buy a disc from him to get the code but for £29 you get the code

I emailed him (and apart fro the car being listed on his website), he replied that he couldn't supply.

Volvo got fed up with folks selling their upgrade disks on fleabay that they introduced the pin No: scheme to counteract.

!Bummer!

It's as though the Nav is a hot property, it's always about a year out of date...

Default Thank you

Thank you for the replies.

They were new disks, shrink-wrapped and unused. The guy on Ebay I bought them from sells a lot of navigation disks. He tells me he's sold hundreds of Volvo RTI updates in the past and no one has ever asked for an activation code before. I think he thinks I've loaded the maps and now want to return the disks.

He does seem to be genuine though. He even offered to send me another set of disks FOC in case the first ones were faulty. However, I'm sure he's going to get more like me needing a code in the future.

I have unwrapped them to try them out, but the good news is that I paid with Paypal so should still get a full refund. I would have sent them back yesterday, but first wanted to check whether codes were available from alternative sources.

I really begrudge paying £227 to Volvo for a map update. I recently bought my daughter a 6" Tomtom for £100 with FREE lifetime updates.

Theirs you answer then,,buy a cheap Tom Tom and don't bother with your expensive factory nav system
Send the bloke his discs back, and ask for a refund, rather than just demand a refund back via Paypal !!

I don't get it, you buy a set of cheap discs, and then moan they don't work,,
Pay the proper price, then you will get a code,

I really don't think trying to find a cheaper alternative to splashing out £200+ is deserving of the level of criticism in your post. The Volvo map updates are ridiculously over-priced for what they are, although probably competitive compared with other car manufacturers.

When I bought new Sat Nav discs for my previous Bmw in 2010, I paid €250 here in Germany so more or less same price. Expensive perhaps, but one does get the proper stuff and when the car was in for its service, they actually not only exchanged my newly purchased discs but even loaded them - it was then the 2011 version and they didn't tell me

I know someone who just downloaded his Mercedes disc from Pirate bay and cut it to a DVD....it worked perfectly.

Now I'm not advocating piracy. Just for information purposes only.

I think you miss the point. They're not cheap disks, they're genuine Volvo disks, unopened and unused. Volvo won't provide me with a code because I didn't buy them directly from them at a highly inflated price. The whole point of this thread was me asking whether I can get a code from elsewhere. It seems the answer is no. So my question was answered.

I didn't buy my Volvo just for the Navigation; it happened to be already in the car when I bought it, but the maps are out of date. My point about the Tomtom was to illustrate that the people who make the maps can give the updates for free, whereas Volvo charge a significant amount of money for the same data. However, I may take your advice and use a Tomtom - it's probably a lot more accurate.

And thank you for your advice on how I should conduct my transactions with the seller - Not asked for, but I shall keep this in mind when dealing with him.

Look at another way.

I buy a set of discs and get a code. Then I sell them on and the next person asks Volvo for a code. Etc etc.

Quite easy to re-wrap.
