URGENT HELP / ADVICE needed - Warning lights
Xc60 2012 Diesel:
Today: Wife was driving the children to school. All of a sudden the DTSC service alert came on. Within 2 minutes the Brake failure safely stop alert came on. As she slowed down to a standstill at a roundabout the car parking brakes engaged and would not let go. Despite everything, the car would not move and would not release the brakes. Then later started to see the SRS Air Bag sign and the engine sign. The RAC came 3 hours later and the guy pressed the brake PLUS the Handbrake release and the car was driven back home under their guidance. It still had the DSTC warning and engine systems alert and Airbag one on. The RAC chap said battery good and Alternator good (had these replaced for a good sum some 2 years ago). Now i came home and the Parking brake releases ok, but then started to do the same thing again. Does not release despite various combinations of pressing break and pulling leaver, putting seatbelt on and pressing clutch then foot brake then lever etc.. All of a sudden started to see more signs, Engine coolant level low, Engine performance low (car is running but does not rev, as in limp mode), Hand brake warning etc. etc about 8 of them! Now live in Hornchurch so not sure how to get to the nearest reliable mechanic, probably need a volvo specialist. Any ideas what may be going on. The fact that all of these things started to flash like warnings lights suggest its probably none of these issues and something more difficult to diagnose. Unlikely all of a sudden everything goes Kaput. Any ideas of good mechanics who have access to VIDA around Hornchurch? Thanks guys, |

I had a similar problem with loads of dash warning lights plus controls becoming unresponsive when water from an underdash washer pipe got into a CANBus connector and messed up the comms. Also stopped the infotainment system, central locking, electric windows, etc working. But it never made the brakes come on.
I made a vidclip of how it looked as I drove along... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-RF9I4mu1Mw Some (older?) models can develop windscreen seal leakage, which may then also affect the CANBus or the CEM. Or your CEM may have developed a fault? Running VIDA diagnostics should help to find the problem area, or perhaps have a look in the passenger footwell for signs of water leakage.

There is an independent Volvo specialist in Wickford, which isn’t that far from Hornchurch, I’m not sure if they would require you to get the vehicle to them, or if they have a breakdown service. But they did a good job replacing a wing mirror and gave good advice after reading the codes on my car a couple of years ago.

Thanks, called them but they are closed. I think i may pop over to them when they have time. Thanks for the recommendation. My wife's local garage said to pop in and they can run diagnostics, but not sure if they will have VIDA. They are MasterTec and usually sort all of our cars out.
I just drove the car today. On start up it said engine management sign. Drove round the block and roads few times for 15 mins. Seemed ok other than that notification. As i came to park i noted it then said the "DTSC service required" then followed by "Engine coolant Levels" and the "Engine management service required" and "Power Steering service required". Really strange that. I checked the footwell and no water, i checked engine coolant and power steering levels and that seemed ok. I know wife drives only short distances all the time, so part of me was thinking perhaps take on Motorway with lower gears so higher revs in case its a DPF thing. In terms of the handling, the car seems fine today and not had the stuck Parking brake issue today. Thanks for the advice guys, Greatly appreciate it. |

I can't see how this could possibly be an engine problem. Might be a battery problem though, possibly if it's been standing a while?

My 2015 did that sort of malarkey just before xmas.
I lost these features on mine all pretty much at once although some appeared & disappeared SRS - Red lamp BLIS & CTA Adaptive High Beam ABL Adaptive Cruise DTSC City Safety Electronic Handbrake Control - had to manually release Auto Wiper Speed limit info. As advised on here checked for water ingress in the usual places & no sign. I 1st took it to a specialist who read codes but didn't have the time to dig further. Car ended up at the dealer issue traced to the module responsible for pretty much all of the safety features. Module replaced & car all good. I hope it's not that for your sake, the repair cost me £1000 for the new module, stripping out the dash to get to it, checking for any water ingress in hidden spots under the dash & putting it all together again.

The leakage on mine (from a pipe that fed the rear washer) was not blindingly obvious by just looking at the carpet. The way it leaked had taken it behind and under the carpet in the passenger footwell. It could just be felt under the mats.

Can you guys advise where to check for leaks. Any pictures so that I can follow or look in the correct place? I'm wary that the mechanics may not know and so replace bits and bobs without sorting the actual problem... Say a water leak at a particular area.
